Hi,
I'll be staying at a hotel north of LAX and have to drive in the morning to a meeting in the Thousand Oaks area.
What is the fastest route? Take Pacific Coast and cut north thru Topanga, or getting on the 405 as quickly as I can, and that means Culver Blvd?
How much should I expect to be held in traffic?
Thanks

Thanks for all the answers. Looks like it'll be either Malibu Canyon or the Kanan Dume. Should I expect heavy traffic in the Northbound (hehe, I mean westbound) PCH at 7 AM?

Take the coast highway up to Malibu Canyon / Las Virgenese (by Pepperdine) and cut across there - it is a much faster and shorter canyon road then Topanga is and less traffic. Malibu Canyon will let you off on the 101 in Agoura Hills.

From Santa Monica to Thousand Oaks on this route is about 45 - 1 hour depending on traffic.

While Kanan is a faster Canyon - it is longer in distances as you backtrack a bit. Taking Malibu Canyon from Santa Monica to Thousand Oaks is 35 miles and @45 minutes. Kanan Dune is 43 miles and takes @1 hour.

From LAX to Santa Monica you'll hit some traffic - but once you get on the coast highway it should be pretty open - but listen to the radio for any major road closures, etc...

Go north on PCH to Kanan Dume Road, which is about 20 miles north (actully, it's west, but we call it "north") of Santa Monica. Take a right onto Kanan Dume, and turn left onto the 101 North once you reach the freeway. From there it will only take about 10 minutes to get to T.O.
This is much faster than Topanga or Malibu Canyons

Listen to the traffic report the minute you get up & try & make your route decision from that. This is the holidays, so the freeways are not nearly as congested. I would allow 1.5 hours at least, if its important that you are on time, then 2 hours (and take a book in case you arrive early). Sometimes you can get off the 405 in the pass and take sepulveda for some of the way. The interchange from the 405 to the ventura fwy can be deadly--I often over shoot and get off on the Burbank exit.

If the weather is bad, I would avoid the canyons, they can be kinda dangerous. If it is a nice day, they are okay though.

Expect there to be a lot of traffic whatever route you take. Unless there is an accident, I'd probably still take the Freeways.

Two hours is normal travel time.

I know it sucks, sorry.
