christians are brainwashed and they would rather believe this fairy tale than actually face the truth that science has provided. Science has proved the big bang theory happened. Yet they would rather raise there hands upon the lord and all that crap. Jesus was a communist.

Because the Fundamentalist Prodistant religion takes everything the Bible says literally. The Earth was created In seven days, I believe so. But the fundamentalist believe the Earth was created in 24/7. WRONG! Sun light time could not have existed because the sun was created on the 3rd day. One day could have been a 1000 to 100000000 years. a 24/7 calender has only existed since the roman empire, calenders were alot different then for many people back in BC. Im fine Believing in God and that one day could have been millions of years old.

Christian literal creationist have created themselves a sticky problem. They have constructed a belief framework based upon a literal Biblical interpretation. They have calculated the age iof the earth from the text - this figure various from 6,000 to 10,000 + years. They MUST believe this is the case or they must admit the Bible is NOT to be taken as a literal and historical text.
So...they deny the self-evident....in order tp protect a very shaky literal interpretation...All rather silly really.

There's a direct genealogical line between Adam and Jesus that stretches about 6000-12000 years depending on who you ask.
Add 7 days of God creating the universe, and 2000 since Jesus and that's how long the Earth and universe has been around.
Now of course this is horribly inaccurate, but that's a summed up version of the answer.

Because they don't believe the science, thinking it's a trick by the Devil, or a test by God.
We can see the universe is older than that because of light years. If the universe was 12 thousand years old we'd only be able to see 12 thousand light years away - as the light would only have had 12 thousand years to get to us. However we can use science to demonstrate stars that are hundreds of millions of light years away.

I am a Christian and I do not believe the Earth is 12000 years old. Matter cannot be created nor destroyed. The ones who translated the bible used the word create. A better word would have been organize. Although I have seen a person take clay and create a statue. The materials of the earth have been here forever. It was organized by Jesus Christ John Chapter One.

Because they're stupid enough to believe it. At least science does have some concrete evidence, rather than a bunch of non-applicable to today's society's hoody-hoo superstitions. They actually think it is 6,000 years though, qualifying them to be even stupider. Ignorance is bliss you know.

I'm a Christan and i don't believe the world is 12000 years old, we don't know how long Adam and eve were in the garden before they committed sin,, could have been millions of years.time was not yet until they sinned.
