Christ was NAILED to the cross. The nails did NOT go into his palms. They went into his wrists...which were considered part of the hand in that time/place...as most people consider their ankle to be part of their foot even today. Nails through the wrists-between the Radius, and Ulna-DO support the weight of the body, without ripping through the arm.

What makes you think the Roman Quartermasters would issue nails for crucifying criminals?
The Roman Army was famous for being economical and did not even shift from Bronze to iron swords because steel was too expensive. It was almost 3 centuries before they started buying iron swords for the troops. Long after the Goths had shown them how effective iron was.
No, your whole Jesus story must be regarded as mythology just because of details like this.

Besides that, whether iron or bronze nails were used they would have to recover them. They would be far to precious to waste. The Romans never made nail puller, claw hammers or crowbars.
Next read up on how the Roman Army constructed their Palisades around their camps. Every unit was expected to erect the Barricade every night they camped. They carried preshaped pickets that fit together into a cross shape. This palisade was what they crucified enemies on. You know, rebels, criminals.

Yes they used rope. Cheap, reusable, replaceable rope to crucify their victims.

Okay....so let me answer your question with 3 questions of my own.

If you are an authoritative government imposing your rule of might over the land of right and the people punished were to be stapled to a tree and left to hang, would they attempt to move their arms and legs away from the spikes as they were being nailed? Wouldn't it be smart to say, oh the 3 guy who tried to run away to tie their appendages in place so the hands and feet could be torturously nailed down? Perhaps the Romans in all their cruelty were somewhat smart and knew the bones held the weight but attempted a little compassion after the first guy pulled himself off?

Yes to your one point.
Nowever Jesus was impaled, with his hands over the top of his head on a torture stake and not out to the side as on a cross!

The Greek word rendered “cross” in many modern Bible versions (“torture stake” in NW) is stau·ros′. In classical Greek, this word meant merely an upright stake, or pale. Later it also came to be used for an execution stake having a crosspiece. The Imperial Bible-Dictionary acknowledges this, saying: “The Greek word for cross, [stau·ros′], properly signified a stake, an upright pole, or piece of paling, on which anything might be hung, or which might be used in impaling [fencing in] a piece of ground. . . . Even amongst the Romans the crux (from which our cross is derived) appears to have been originally an upright pole.”—Edited by P. Fairbairn (London, 1874), Vol. I, p. 376.

Then there is always the analogical meaning of tied to the cross, as in he is inextricably linked to it. Of course, bringing analogy and metaphor into any discussion about the Bible isn't always appreciated. People don't seem to like having their myths messed with.
