I spent 9 years as a professional pilot in Alaska and you'll be fine. If it wasn't safe I wouldn't have done it for a living. Yes, the weather is often bad, so delays are common, but crashes are extremely rare for big jets. If you are flying on Alaska Airlines, I can tell you that there are no better or safer airline pilots in the world. If you are flying there on another airline, then you are probably going to Anchorage, which is a large modern airport that is easy for any airline to get in an out of safely, even if they don't go anywhere else in Alaska. If it's a clear day when you arrive, the scenery is spectacular, so enjoy it.

I can remember the first time I went on holiday by aircraft. I was quite scared as well and not helped by my witty colleagues making remarks about "flying tonight chop suey roll huh" in a mock Chinese fish and chip shop accent.
Don't worry once the plane takes off the only noise you will hear apart from the wheels going up with a bit of a thump will be slipstream and the flaps going down with the wheels as you are coming into land. Must turbulence wil be a slight shudder and if you get more than that it will be a bit like a ship at sea but will only last a little while.
Have fun enjoy the flight most people do. I hope it is a rather boring one.

Did you know that the probability of you crashing in a plane is a LOT lower than the probability of you crashing in a car? The probability of you crashing really is low, so don't worry about that. And there are people who work espically to calculate where some storms MIGHT be, so that no problems will happen with it. I rode a plane when I was about 11, and I had so much fun. Once your on a plane, the thoughts of crashing or something bad happening go away. Just enjoy the ride! It's great!

An airplane crashing is very rare. This should not be a point of worry for you. Lost luggage is another thing though. This is a real possibility. Be SURE to have your luggage marked with your name, home address and point of destination on both the interior and exterior of each piece of luggage. Also, contact the airline for maximum weight and number of pieces that you are allowed.
If weather is a problem factor during your landing, the airline will route you to another destination, and provide additional transportation for you to arrive at your original destination. The airline will also supply overnight accommodations if needed (very rare), or even temporary lodgings if the delay is long enough. I will bet that you will have exactly no problems pertaining to your transportation to and from Alaska. Good Luck!

Not to scare you, however there is a saying that the only way to rewrite a regulation is in blood. Be happy that there has been over 100 years to perfect the art of flying, and the aircraft you will be boarding is a technologically superior bird. Even if a pilot cannot see outside the window, the onboard computers can. They use radar to find those storms you are scared of, and if you ever watch a flight path on 'flight aware' or something like that, they turn right around them. However, like other answers to this question there can be turbulence over 20 miles from the storm. But did you know air is a fluid? Much like water, air posesses the same dynamics. So think about swimming, are you going to just 'fall' out of the water much like you think of yourself as 'falling' out of the air? Hope not. Furthermore, you would be HARD pressed to get the wings to buckle as well. Google '777 wing stress test', it is an amazing video about wing strength. It withstood over 150% of any flight force ever to be recorded. Check the weather the morning you depart to anticipate what you can expect while flying there.

it is more likely to experience an accident on the road than in an aircraft. Most of the accidents in aviation are due to human error by the pilot in command but that is very rare. The probability of a plane having an accident due to mechanical problems is also extremely rare. Thunderstorms are more dangerous to airplanes than snowstorms are. Pilots are professionals and their job is to make sure that you get to your destination safely so just relax, justen to music, read, whatever is makes you relaxed and calm and before you know it, you'll be at your destination.
As for luggage, you need to make sure that your luggage is tagged for the same place that you are going to... if you are going to Alaska using 2 or more airlines you might need to ask the check in attendant to make sure your tags are marked for your final destination or else you will find that you will get there but your luggage wont. Once again it is rare that an attendant will do this... i have flown many times and have only had this happen to me once.

If you lose luggage, just find the airline's baggage office. It's usually right in baggage claim. Just be sure to have a small carry on with any prescriptions you might need, and perhaps a change of clothes. Don't worry about the storms, they won't go if the conditions are not right. People fly all the time, and it's the safest way to travel. Just look at the signs in the airport and be sure to arrive early.

Luggage actually gets to the airport faster than the passenger, lost luggage is really rare... you have more of a chance being struck by lightning than crashing, the plane has an anti-ice button, if you are in a passenger jet (commercial). the engines will not shut down they are built to withstand that, plus to make you relax you get fresh air from the outside of the the plane, so it is nice and cool to sooth you nerves, don't worry!

.The best thing to do ...Is not ask what if 's just think of all the fun you will have, take you a good magazine or book to read. You will be there before you know it . You'll have some great things to share when you get back. I always take a carry on with me, that has a change of clothing in it. with toiletry's. So if the luggage is a day behind I am fixed up for a day. But it has always gotten there with me.

Your chances of being involved in an airplane accident are 1 in 11 million. Which is far safer if you were driving there as your chances of a car accident or 1 in 5,000. So relax, your safe. Though bare in mind turbulence is normal for airlines and they are prepared to deal with it. I know statistics mean nothing to the individual, only large groups.
The number one cause of commercial airline accidents is human error by the pilot or crew. So you can rest easy that the pilot and co-pilot are more likely to doze off then the airplane having a mechanical error. But have faith in your fellow man and have a safe and sound journey.
