Names change gender over time... mainly thanks to ignorance. Then people who have family-names that have changed seem a bit odd. I was at school with a boy called Kimberley which is now regarded to be a girl's name, for instance... but Kim Philby was a man and that didn't raise any questions at the time.
Similarly, I met a little girl called Tristan. I asked if she had a little brother called Isolde, but apparently not.
Then John Wayne was called Marion, and the wrestler Big Daddy was called Shirley.
Conclusion: People are idiots.

Yes, both boys and girls names are used for each other. I'm a girl and my name is courtney my name is originally a boys name but now they are both boys and girls names now. Boys names are like that too.

Absolutely. More often that a girl that has a boy's name, and these names usually become girl's names eventually.

i suppose it depends where you live/ come from- many of the answers here that say ' i am girl with a boys name which is ......' and I wouldn't consider their name to be a boys! what is male name in US can be female name in UK. I always wante to call my son James and make it Jamie ( Ioved the name jamie off DR Who in the 70's!) but found when i moved to ireland that it is a girls name here:( so couldn't use it.
