Because of ancient stories, passed down from word of mouth and not written down until much, much later?

Because a person "just knows"? Because of popular opinion, or because it's the kind of thing that people want to hear?

Because the preaching of the cross is to them who do not believe, foolishness? But who wrote that? Someone who wanted to make sure that people who believed it had a defense against those who do not? To call them foolish for not believing something so ridiculous is NOT a good comeback!

Psychologically humans are capable of deeply and sincerely believing all sorts of things that aren't real...

What makes this belief different?

(Those who say the evidence for Christianity is sure, are deeply misinformed - plus Jesus says that it's foolish to look for evidence.)

HolyLamb,

I used that book in my Doctoral Thesis (PhD in Comparative Religions, Duke University.)

Strobel has too many false premises.

so, why should we, better yet how can we even begin to give you an answer you yourself will shoot down. It's like asking for an opinion on a matter you've already chosen an answer to and closed your mind to.

Sir, with all do respect, this just happens to be YOUR PERSPECTIVE AND YOUR VIEW. And I am in my right mind when I say that Jesus Christ IS GOD. Charles Darwin has not saved me from any car accident or delivered me from any illness. No one bought my people through the trials and tribulations of slavery OR the hardships of smallpox, ration tickets, treaties, OR life on the reservation. I am a staunch believer! I know that THERE IS A GOD! I have seen him at work! And by the way, I had an eight week science internship at Duke University this summer. So........we're on the same playing field buddy. You may not agree with us, but I don't think the fact that you are a non-believer gives you the jurisdiction to insult and ridicule those of us who have a religion and have accepted Jesus into our lives.

Because people have a need to worship something that they can SEE. Even though nobody ever actually saw Jesus (his story is word for word the exact same as much earlier pagan savior stories), people are very uncomfortable trying to worship an unseen deity. This is why people used to worship trees, rocks, the sun, the moon, etc.

It's the same deal, worshipping that which is created instead of the creator. And in order to get around that little problem to make it fit more with Judaism so it can seem more legitimate, the Church turned their pagan messiah into the Creator. This got rid of the problem of worshipping that which is created, since he then became "wholly human and wholly God".

Unfortunately for them, there has never existed in Judaism the concept that the Messiah is anything but human, born in the usual way between a married Jewish man and wife, doesn't act as a virgin human/god blood sacrifice for sin, lives a long life, etc.

The plenty later you communicate of wasn't all that plenty later. the folk that wrote those issues for sure wrote them of their very own lifetime. They have been there. They talked to Jesus. They observed Him, ate with Him, observed His miracles, witnessed His demise, resurrection and ascension. Now- look at historical Roman history. history e book-no longer the Bible. See if the rulers Annas, Caiaphus, and Pilat are indexed. you will locate that they are,. look at the Bible and you will locate that those are the comparable enormous photos that Jesus went to trial (presided over the trial) in front of. This record is in history and this history replaced into no longer written by ability of Christians purely ! people will believe each and every form of issues? Yeah. and you stay evidence.

Your 4th point. Some people just can't shake that need off. And the fact that most were raised to think that it's right and everything else is wrong. Two very strong factors, there are more so it doesn't necessarily mean they're not in their right minds (which is relative BTW) some are downright insane, but that's beside the point.

John Guilt, only those that believe in Jesus are in their right mind. There is plenty of evidence, you are misinformed, Jesus never said it was foolish to look for evidence. Thirty percent of the Bible is prophecy. There is enough evidence that no one will have an excuse on judgment day.

Stop getting your information from tv, and start researching- take a look at "The Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel for instance. I dare you. Try to prove the Bible wrong. I double dare you.

In the end, if you are really honest enough to search for evidence, you will bow your knee and acknowledge, "Jesus Christ is Lord of Lords". And that will bring glory to God.

Well, my friend is a christian and these are her reasons for believing:

1. While her uncle was preaching she spoke in tongues and flailed on the floor like a fish.

2. She spoke with Jesus while taking LSD on several occasions.

You can come to your own conclusions.

EDIT: Godless hit it right on the head. How anyone can choose to ignore or justify this overwhelming evidence just proves how ingenious the human mind can be.

How could any thinking person believe that God/YHWH/Allah, Subhanna wa Ta'ala, would either begat a child or descend to become man?

If God gave up His Godhead to become mortal, who or what would sustain all of existence while God was in His mortal and therefore non- God-like state?

If Jesus (peace be uon him) was God/YHWH/Allah, Subhanna wa Ta'ala, who did he pray to? Himself? Those supposed other two parts of him that were still in heaven?

If Jesus was God/YHWH/Allah, Subhanna wa Ta'ala, and knew he was such, then wouldn't that make his death a bit of a sham as he would know that he realy could not die.

If he could not really die then there was no death on the cross to save all of mankind as if he was God/YHWH/Allah, Subhanna wa Ta'ala, he was immortal and could not die.

Would that then be perpetuating a hoax or a fraud? Why would God/YHWH/Allah, Subhanna wa Ta'ala, need to do such a thing?

If Jesus (pbuh) was God/YHWH/Allah, Subhanna wa T'ala, why didn't the first and second century Christains believe such? The idea that Jesus (pbuh) was God did not becomce a dogmactic truth of Christianity until the Council of Nicea in 345 C.E. That is also when the Trinity became a dogmatic truth of the church as well.

If you have a being that is composed of three interdependent parts and you take away one part by making it different from the remaining two parts can those two remain parts continue to exist as a whole and function as the same?

Most persons believe it now because they appear to have been well indoctrinated to believe so while their free research and individual thought was supressed.

It also seems to have a great deal to do with the early state recognized church trying to please the Romans and Greeks whom they had been converting (i.e., to make it more appealing to them as they would never worship a mere man, a mortal but they would worship a "god") after Jesus (pbuh) had been rejected by his own people.

It is a mystery!

Well, according to Genesis 1:26 and John 1:1-5 shows us that;
the fact that Jesus was born of the Holy Spirit tells us He was made of the same substance as His Father, which makes Him God's Son which makes Him God in essence and power and authority

For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
