Ah, lady_lbrty, there it is. Thank you and please forgive my laziness for not looking it up myself, a bit tired today.

J Moe, it doesn't say anything there about them worshipping the tree or making an idol of it, all it says is: "They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not."

I want deal with the actual words, not subjective interpretations of them.

TJ, I'm not asking anyone if they abide by it, nor do I care what you have seen or not seen in my answers.

OK, so everything that cannot move is an idol, then. If you say that v. 4: the tree cannot move and v. 5: their idols cannot move, then that means that the tree is an idol, that is a logical fallacy. It does not necessarily follow from what is written there that the tree is an idol. IT COULDN'T MOVE WHEN IT WAS IN THE GROUND EITHER, REALLY.

Yes, the Bible does mention the decorating of trees in Jeremiah 10:1-4
1 ¶ Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:
2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

This was spoken to the children of Israel by God. They were in captivity and they were not to do the same things that the heathens did.

Hope that helps.

This particular verse is talking about people cutting and decorating these trees, but it refers to them looking up to these trees as idols. The verse is not talking about having a Christmas tree put up. It was talking about idolatry...keep that in mind.

idol -an object of worship; a false god

You will find this in Jeremiah 10:3-5

vs. 3 -For the customs of the peoples are worthless; they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel.

vs. 4 -They adorn it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so it will not totter.

vs. 5 -Like a scarecrow in a melon patch, their IDOLS cannot speak; they must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not fear them; they can do no harm nor can they do any good.

This was a huge problem because God's word says there shall be no other gods except for Him. (Deuteronomy5:7)

I heard it says something against worshipping the trees. And as far as the history goes, the pagans used to bring trees inside their homes during winter for worshipping by decorating them. That was adopted by other culture as something that interested them for its wonder, rather then its true meaning. Therefore, Christmas trees have really nothing to do with Jesus being born, but rather an old pagan worship ritual. I have a Christmas tree. I don't care where it originated from, really. I think we do so many wrong things that the blood of Christ covers most of it, aspecially silly thing like the Christmas tree.

Actually... weirdly... it does. Old Testament. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful with the book and verse. I *want* to say it's either in Leviticus or Jeremiah. Something about it being forbidden to decorate a tree with gold and silver.

The only thing that you should hang on your tree are crucifixes. Since most christians have taken to worshiping statues like jesus and mary, you may want to throw on a few of these figurines. I personally think a few of christ on the crucifix would pack a pretty good punch. Scrolls of the ten commandments would be good.

Where does it say in the bible that you should even incorporate the evergreen tree as part of your worship and celebration of christ's birth?

Uh oh, is this a trick question to throw the verses at the Christians and ask them if they abide by it? Just curious.
We are not all gay haters there.
Edit- Well, good for you as some do. You have to be
cautious on R&S.

Jeremiah 10: "vain" custom of Baby-lonian "brutish fools"

Solomon: Ecclesiastes: all vanity & vexation of spirit x7

Galatians 1:9 if angel brings you such, let him be accursed

Green Party: killing a living tree, then trash it to be burned,
just for sake of tradition that dates backward to Baby-lon?
Kinda stupid if the tree is producing oxygen you need, eh.

Grace --> Mercy ---> Peace with you all. Amen.

No, the texts are about creating idols of Middle Eastern gods and treating them as if the god resides in them.
