I am just curious as to what kinda jobs are working the holiday and what companies are doing this to their employees. I don't practice Christianity but I don't practice Islam either and I would not work my employees on their respectively religious holidays.

I was raised in a Christian family but adopted a non-Christian religion as an adult.

I used to work (as a nurse) on Christmas, usually a double shift, so that at least one or two of my coworkers with children could spend the day with their families.

This year my husband has to work on Christmas but luckily he's just on back-up call for the hospital so hopefully he'll be home with us for the day since this is the first year our daughter really understands what's going on.

I heard that the post office is going to be delivering mail on Christmas!?! Poor postal workers - that stinks for them. I could definitely do without getting mail that day!

Have a good holiday - and a very happy New Year!

I work at the front desk or a a franchised hotel and will be working x-mas. Here we divide up the shifts to half shifts. So everyone works but not for to long and usually the one with out kids works the morning for obvious reasons. Its not to heinous! I didn't know know about the postal workers though, thats rough!

Why does Movie Gallery and Walgreens need to be opened all day on x-mas? Whats with these businesses, you'd think they'd lose money just paying the employees to be there?? Pretty soon we wont have holidays off anymore!!!

Well I don't work, I'm only fourteen. I'm off. My mom will not be working Christmas Day, but Christmas Eve, it has always been that way. She works at a nursing home, and she is their top RN and in my opinion the best (she's my mommy so of course I'll say that) also other people the residents families, some co workers, the DON (director of nursing) will say that too. I swear she should try to become a DON she'd be so good at it, she has such a beautiful, and generous and giving heart.

Have a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!!!!!

As a former Hotel Manager, I and my employees worked all holidays, and vacation times. In some businesses it's expected.

We did try to take into consideration, the religious needs of our employees, putting up sign up lists, for folks who were less religious to sign up, to cover shifts for those who wished to attend services.

Many industries require workers to be there 24/7.. hospitality, public utilities, public services, hospital workers etc...

We're Jewish and my daughter works for Movie Gallery, which is open every day of the year. She always volunteers to work the ENTIRE day so everyone else can be home with their families. She will be there opening til closing and her hubby will hang out there with her and bring her dinner. My mom was an RN and used to work the Christian holidays, too, so someone else would be able to get it off. Now, as for OUR Jewish holidays, employers are required to let us have them off, but they very rarely pay us- we have to take vacation days, sick days or personal time.

I am a newsman, as you know, and we work on some holidays. Our colleagues work on other holidays.
