it begins at midnight thats why its called midnight mass, midnight is 12 am for that matter.

Trick question. In many areas, it doesn't start at midnight. Quite a few congregations begin the service at 11:00 PM, and sometimes there will be a choral or other prelude that begins at 10:30.

Usually 11:00 PM and ends around 1:00 AM depending on the size of the congregation.
