Okay, we have had our cat Emmaline fixed a week ago. She is very lazy and for some strange reason WILL NOT quit chewing on a certain plant. when you got your cat spayed did it become lazy ? or do you think the plant is making my precious cat sick?

Actually chewing grass helps their digestion, so perhaps she is trying to sooth her upset tummy. And it's normal for her to be lazy a week after being spayed. She did just go through surgery after all. She will be fine once she heals. :)

Some times the cats will change their behavior after being spayed. She might be a little sore. She will be feeling better soon. If you are really worried call your vet. She should be fine.

What kind of plant is it? Here is a link to see if the plant is poisonous to cats (In Soucres list). The CFA is the AKC of the cat world.

Does you cat go outside? If not you might want to get some oat plant seed or another non-toxic plant for the cat to chew on. You cat might decide that the grass tastes better and leave the other one alone.

I agree...chewing the grass is to settle her tummy, just make sure it's okay for her to eat. Also, with is being the holidays and all make sure it isn't pointsettia or holly or needles from the tree because they can all be poisonous. If she is on pain killers, this could also explain the lethargy. My cat, Samantha was spayed and would only get out of her cat bed to use the litter and eat for over a week. She's probably just recuperating...poor little lady.

Cats have the right to be lazy if they want to! Don't stress about that.

As for the plant, it would be useful if you said what kind of plant it is as some are safe for cats and others are not. Look up whether this plant is toxic to cats and if it is put it out of reach.

I know chewing grass makes my cats throw up, so the plant might be upsetting her tummy a bit. My cats seemed a bit drowsy for a few days after they were spayed, but not for a week. I know of older tom cats (and other male animals) that were a bit down after losing their manhood (bless them), but usually only if they're "cut" when they're older.

I cannot give you any information about post spaying behavior in cats, but I do know that some plants can be toxic to pets.
