Exaggeration is sometimes funny, but then again minimizing the importance or danger of a thing can also be funny. Exposing hypocrisy in a politician's positions or a celebrity publicist's statement can be fun and funny too. Satire can be funny, but is frequently misunderstood.
But what really makes a thing funny is an interesting angle that takes us to a level of humorous observation about a subject that we hadn't noticed or considered before now. We laugh when we reach that point; and the more unexpected the point the more laughter you hear.

Good question.
Humor is a very difficult thing to analyze. I've heard and read any number of theories about what makes people laugh at certain things.
Naturally I have my own ideas on the subject, but what I will suggest to you, so that you can figure the answer out for yourself, is that you take a selection of jokes and situations that you personally find funny/that make you laugh, write or type them all out, and then sit down and give careful scrutiny to what exactly makes these things seem humorous to you.
For example, most jokes contain some element, whether mild or severe, of voyeuristic cruelty--i.e., we see a person making a mistake in judgment or perception that leads to some type of comeuppance or disaster that we can feel safe in laughing at because it is after all an imaginary situation. However, that's not the only thing that makes a joke funny, of course--there are other elements as well.
You should have a fun and profitable time ahead of you if you decide to do more research on this subject.
Thanks for asking this interesting question. xoxo

Sometimes hearing anothers laughing can make you laugh just in itself! Well, if YOU think something's funny, only You can be the judge for yourself alone. Laughter is an audible expression of amusement or feeling of joy and pleasure! It may come from jokes, tickling, and other stimuli. Laughing is a part of human behavior.

I think laughing is just a reaction like smiling when someone gives you a compliment. Some people just laugh because others are and they find that funny, others laugh for the sake of laughing.

Actually I laugh even if something is not really funny..when someone's joke is soooo lame, I laugh because it's funny how lame it is....doesn't make much sense, I know.

It's the way they tell them. A funny person can deliver something pretty unfunny and make it seem funny. Funny that.

I think what makes something funny is if an event happens or something is said unexpectedly.

1) The material has to be delivered well, be appropriate, and timed well. 2) The material has to be funny, a bad joke is hard to sell. And 3) It depends on the audience's mood.
Having said this, here's one of my favorites: On April 1st, a woman's in labor. The doctor delivers the baby, throws it on the ground, and crushes it with his foot. The mom yells out in horror, and the doctor says, "ha, the joke's on you, the baby was already dead."
