The reason these simpletons make it into political arenas is simple. The one "good" thing that religion does is create social groups that help propel others into positions of power.
If a church leader supports a political person, then the congregation will support that person as well. When other religious organizations see the first organization support that political person, then they jump on the bandwagon....and so on and so on. It's not that they deserve it, they just had a lot of shoulders to stand on.

Since the majority of people are religious to varying degrees , politicians and business men often put on a show of religion for their own benefit . That doesn't make them "deeply religious" .

I think many world leaders profess religious faith because their people want them to be religious. Certainly, in times of crisis, people don't want words from a cleric; they want their nation's _leader_ to speak to them of faith.
I am not trying to say that world leaders lie about having faith; I think many of those leaders are in fact devout. But it is also a fact that they probably would not have been elected to their positions if they hadn't at least been observed to follow a religion. I mean this for all leaders, not just the US president.
And maybe, in a way, it lets us know that even our world leaders understand and feel humility, just as we, their people, do.

Who says they are deeply religious, they act a part to get votes. If their voting block is deeply religious then this would follow if you want to be assured of their votes. What goes on in the minds of men only the shadow knows, what they tell us is another story completely, the question follows, are our leaders honest also?

Lots of people claim to be "deeply religious"...that doesn't make it so.
People will say whatever they feel is necessary under their current circumstances.
If all the people who claimed to be "deeply religious" were really so, we would all live in peace with each other - all over the world.
Hypocracy reigns supreme!!!

Actually, in reading your question... I come up with a few of my own for you ...
Why did you ignore your teachers in school? Were you better at learning than they were at teaching?
True and perfect religion according to Jesus is two things.. to visit with widows and orphans during the time of their affliction and to keep oneself unstained by the world. Does not seem superstitious at all to me. So it must be your problem with something you never bothered to learn about.
Leaders? Politicians are politicians.. human beings. Just like you and all the rest of us.

They fake it or really are simple, ignorant people. After all, they have loads of simple, ignorant people to lead and how else do you lead them? With the facts? And what if the facts would lead you to think the simple, ignorant people were getting seriously ripped off by their leaders? Would they tell them or act simple and ignorant to throw them off?
It's called LYING, kid, and if you check with most adults, they will admit most politicans do this.
Alternately, simple, ignorant people empower simple, ignorant leaders.

Politicians are by nature without much moral sense. They go with whatever set of values that will keep them in office. Nothing is more sincere than a politician facing you. It is when you turn your back that you must have protection.

Because they want the religious people to vote for them! Don't forget that 80-90% of Americans are believers!
