Shades of White. Notice when you go into a vacant house or an apartment, they normally have the walls white.

Then when you get your furniture in it, realty hits, it's not that large at all!

Lighter, neutral colors generally make a room look bigger.

Most light colors. White will make it look big but bare which isnt the most attractive. I painted my room a dark pink and it looked small and cramped but then i painted it light pink and it looked 10 times bigger!

honestly, paint will not make a room look bigger. pay more attention to the scale of the furniture in the room. ask yourself "what kind of room do you want". cozy, bright, austere. darker colors can make a room cozy. lighter colors can make room bright and white austere. but its your furniture scale the makes it all work. putting larger over stuffed pieces in a room with little square footage will eat up visual space. to make a room look larger, choose furniture that suits the scale of the room. furniture with legs (rather than furniture the sits completely on the floor) take up less visual space as to table with glass tops. my best suggest to you is to look through magazines and find a room you really like and copy it. further, don't limit yourself to looking at rooms that fit what you think you want, look at them all. finally, relax; picking things that you really like almost always leads to room you really enjoy. its not about knowing Chippendale from bedermier, its ALL about what you like.

Light colors mainly. I painted my room a light yellowish color and it really made my room look big! Stay away from dark colors if your room is already pretty small.

Light accent color on one prominant wall makes a room twice it's size.

Invisible. Add windows and sky lights. If that is not possible then add artificial lighting. Even changing your bulbs to the LED white light will do more than painting any color.
