Are they a good supplement for professional therapy?

What about free forums and paying sites?

What are the best sites out there? And how do they help?

It's a Christian site to help people recover from trauma, abuse, addictions, depression, etc.

It's a support group.

Recovery only works as well as God works in the person and as the person is faithful to do the steps. Online sites can provide supplementary help in recovery, but they are no substitute for being with other members of the body of Christ with God working through each of you to strengthen and encourage and comfort and hold accountable one another.

Setting Captives Free is the only site I know about. http://www.settingcaptivesfree.com/home/

When I first read your question, I thought you were referring to former Christians trying to recover from what they went through as a result of Christianity.

But based on your clarification I have a few thoughs:

I would never recommend paying for any kind of therapy or support site online as there are so many scammers out there. Find a free site instead, some kind of forum or community where you can chat to other people who know what you're going through.

Secondly, I think religious support groups are highly dodgy. You're in a vulnerable position and bringing your religion into it gives people a second angle from which to exploit you.

I'm sorry if this comes across as paranoid, but I really think that you're best off with an impartial, professional counselor who can take an objective look at things and has no hidden agendas related to religion or money. You need someone whose only intention is to help you.

Free, secular online support groups are probably the best way to go as you'll be able to support and be supported by people who understand how you feel. I hope your recovery goes well, enjoy the holidays.

Most of them have great intentions, but do allot of harm, when they come across people with serious problems.

For instance. A recovery center is great for people dealing with stress, that believe in God. It gives them fellow Christians to talk with and to tell some of their secrets too.

However when a person suffering from schizophrenia attends these facilities, they are misdiagnosed as being demon possessed which just aggravates their malady.

Its nice to believe in God, but when you start replacing that belief with scientific practice and medicine that has proven results, you are doing a diservice to mankind.

It's something like rehab, only without all the costs. You don't need to pay all that money for recovery. You just have believe in yourself and your higher power. Mine happens to be God, sorry for the ones that don't believe in God. My mom was one of the nonbelievers. She asked me one time to show her God. But you have to have an open mind to do that. She asked me how I knew he is here, and I tried to answer in a way she would understand. Are you breathing? I asked. Yes, she replied. What are you breathing, I asked. Air, she replied. How do you know? I asked. Can youe see it? No she said. Then how do you know it's there? I asked. Because I am breathing it, she said. There you go, I said. But it's not doing any miracles, she said. You are alive, are you not? I asked. But that's not a miracle, that's just living. That is right I said. She had her mind closed, but I still put a doubt in her mind. I hope she saw what it was I was trying to show her before she died.
You have to have faith, and trust in the lord. You have to ask before you can recieve. But you have to have patience too, cuase God has a whole lot of souls to take care of. My only question is, what does God do, on his one day of rest? Blessed Be and Merry Christmas to all!

Every person is different as to what they need to recover. I guess if it helps people then it would be worth trying. We all need words of encourgement and being around those that understand our trauma and suffering.
