Bipolar runs in my family my grandmother my mother and two aunts. They think I am to. I am not sure if I am. My question is if I am can my doctor give me medicine so I can beable to work? I am scared around people and do not socialize. I can't keep a job because I can't concertraite very well and I get upset and frustrated sometimes and I just walk off the job. I need to know if I can get medicine to help me so I can work instead of trying to get disabaility. I just wanna be normal and work and I don't see it happening. If anyone can help me let me know thanks.

Hi, you might consider asking your doctor for a referral to a psychiatrist.

There are a number of mood stabilizers available which might be prescribed to help you cope if you are suffering from bipolar disorder. However, it's better if you combine medication with psychotherapy and other life changes to help you which include eating a good diet which is conducive to mental health and getting plenty of exercise.

Good luck!

It sounds like your inability to work and the fear of socializing is really affecting your life, but luckily there are several treatments for this, there is hope. Although BPD can be difficult to treat at times, i would say you re right by trying to get treatment before considering disability. There are several mood stabilizers available, which you can get from a psychiatrist or if that's not an option, a general practitioner. Also, i strongly recommend some type of therapy to help you regulate the disturbing shifts between mania and depression. Also, BPD has a very strong genetic component so it is likely that if it runs in your family you may have a mood disorder as well. Good luck and take very good care of yourself. Try to eat healthy as well, your body needs nutrients to help your mind function. Dr. max S.

im bipolar and am not on disability.....i work and live a normal life most the time....the toughest part is finding the right combination of medication that works for you because everyone is different and there are quite a bit of meds out there....many of the meds have side crappy side effects that fortunately do subside after a couple weeks and some require periodic bloodwork....but i promise you its worth it... get help.........it may be discouraging at first, feel like its impossible but stick to it......i work and go to college....crappy thing about it tho is that even when you are on meds, sometimes they need to be tweaked around....for me i usually need a lithium increase in the winter cuz of the coldness and the darkness really gets to me.......good luck

Its commendable that you desire to try to integrate into society.

Yeah, your doc may very well find a med combo that will stabilize you so you can work. Many bipolars are fully functional with the assistance of meds.

Good luck.

They prescribe medication especially when you're not able to function in daily life. And it definitely sounds like you need some. You should probably start taking sometthinggg to help prevent manic and depressive episodes.

You need to be asking your doctor these questions, not the people here.

If you are bi-polar, you will need help from professionals who are trained to be your advocate
