Do bed bugs cause harm or spread pathogens (disease-causing germs)?
Bed bugs seek out people and animals, generally at night while these hosts are asleep, and painlessly sip a few drops of blood. While feeding, they inject a tiny amount of their saliva into the skin. Repeated exposures to bed bug bites during a period of several weeks or more causes people to become sensitized to the saliva of these bugs; additional bites may then result in mild to intense allergic responses. The skin lesion produced by the bite of a bed bug resembles those caused by many other kinds of blood feeding insects, such as mosquitoes and fleas. The offending insect, therefore, can rarely be identified by the appearance of the bites. A physician should be consulted to rule out other causes for the lesions and to offer treatment, as needed. The affected person should resist the urge to scratch the bites, as this may intensify the irritation and itching, and may lead to secondary infection. Physicians often treat patients with antihistamines and corticosteroids to reduce allergic reactions and inflammation. Despite what you may have heard or read elsewhere, bed bugs are not known to transmit any infectious agents.kisses

well there are a few things that arent' healthy if you have bed bugs... 1. a bed bug could be carrying a harmful disease, bites you, then you get sick because of it. 2. bed bugs are defecating all over your mattress... need I say more????? 3. they will just keep multiplying.. and multiplying.... The only way to really get rid of bed bugs is to get a new mattress...its not even worth trying to clean it. You also need to check your pillows and clothes and stearlize your blankets in the washer because the bed isnt the only place they can end up!

I watched a show about them and it was very interesting. Those little boogers can hide in the wood framing of your bed during the day, so just getting rid of your mattress may not get rid of them. They also hide in the base boards of your floor. The show said older pillows can be filled with their feces. They can be harmful causing allergies. I don't know if they carry diseases or not. They suggest that you put those hypoallergenic plastic covers on your pillows and mattresses if you have an infestation. You need to vacuum really well and often. If the little red bumps from their bites are still appearing on you, then call an exterminator. Sweet dreams and Merry Christmas!

Bites from bedbugs are not dangerous, although if you have sensitive skin, the bites may cause you to itch or develop a rash. The best way to get rid of bed bugs is to do a full cleaning of you bedroom. Wash your sheets in warm water and be sure to dry them fully. Be sure to change your bed sheets regularly to avoid accumulating dead skin, which the bedbugs feed upon. Also be sure to clean the surroundings of your bed, and the rest of your room. Vacuum corners and focus on picking up dust, as dust is made up mostly of dead skin as well. With these steps, you should be able to decrease or eliminate your bedbug issues. Don't worry about them too much, because they will always be there, it's more important to prevent infestations than to completely eliminate all of them. Sweet Dreams!

I just saw a special on tv or a clip or something regarding bed bugs. And yes, they are harmful, they bite, and can cause serious skin infections.

Well they do suck your blood

What You Should Do
If you think you've been bitten by a bedbug, wash the bites with soap and water. Put on some calamine lotion to help with the itching. Try not to scratch the bites too much because this can make them become infected.

What a Doctor Will Do
If you get an infection from scratching bedbug bites, a doctor will need to prescribe medication to clear up the infection.

Well as far as i know their bites can be extremely itchy and can cause infections, they also carry pathogens to hep C, but they havent been linked to transmitting any desease. But just in case you might wanna wash ur bedding etc with warm water..and vaccum or sweep ur house often, and if the problem persist contact and exterminator...they might not be an extreme threat but u certainly dont want them lurking around.

They don't carry diseases but you should throw your bed away and clean the room really well. Then buy a new bed, you don't wan't to continue to get bitten.

There are so many creatures living happily upon and in our bodies that unless you never clean your sheets and allow spiders and other poisonous things to sleep with you, you should be OK.
