I used to get creative blocks like you describe, now I don't. There is one thing that I learned about creating art. And since than I can't find enough time to finish all the painings that I have in my head. The secret is; not what you paint but how you paint it. Painting is not about copying what you see, but interpreting it in your own way. Take any picture or object and paint it only using purple, black and white. Make it in a painterly fashion, or simplify it till its abstract. Don't say I will make a painting of a red apple but I will throw red and green and other colors on the canvas until people will say wow it is an apple. Don't paint an object but the feeling that you have of an object.

Well, I don't know, but I think the most important thing is that you just do it, whatever it is. Don't let this supposed creative blockage stop you. Don't require of yourself a masterpiece. If you want to get better, if you want to create a gem, you'll have to create a lot of pieces of junk along the way. Look around, find something with interesting light and/or texture and try to capture it. Wing it. Try your idea, even if you don't think it's a very good one. Often, in the process of experimenting, the idea you have been searching for will come to you.

The reason for creative block is the fear of failure. " To fail is to succeed" All creative inventions and thoughts were tried and failed before success could come out of the effort. It is the process of painting, enjoying the time spent alone with you and your paints and not trying to creative "the masterpiece" that you have to have done perfect so you can frame it, hang it or sell it. My best works come from just getting out the paints and the paper or canvas and trying new things. Sometimes cleaning my studio will suddenly say "you haven't used this media in a long time" or "why not try using this media or this paper or this subject in a new way". There are many books and websites on creative exercises that can also give you a boost.
The main thing is to let go of the fear!!! Just do it!!!!!!

One of the remedies for this CREATIVE BLOCKAGE is to CREATE....! I used to just get a pencil and a sketchpad and start making sketch after sketch....sometimes on the same page. Eventually it would hit me, and I would come up with
some kind of new idea. Sometimes I would come up with a whole series of finished products from just that one sketch.
A pencil and a couple of pieces of paper would keep me busy for a long time. Many times, I would make copies of the black and white sketches and file them for future use. That way, I always had a record of something that I might want to refer to again in the future....Good Luck and God bless....!

Oh, in that creative rut huh? Get out the paints, get the house quiet except for some nice music... and try something geometic or abstract. It may be different from what you want but all you are out is the cost of a canvas....
Other than that, get out an old calendar... I save the ones with flowers and nice scenes...
Try painting a picture that you took this year...like a beach scene or something....
