Does moral obligation trump political obligation?

2007-12-23 04:46:43 · 10 answers · asked by Anonymous in Politics & Government Military

The Turks have been terrorizing their own Kurds for decades. Who protects the Kurds? If Turkey was a rogue nation we would have helped them by now. Politically we can't, since they are members of NATO and our ally. Let's hope the Turks don't do to the Kurds what they did to the Armenians.

While there might be some sympathy for the Kurds and their claims for their own homeland, blowing up innocent civilians and tourists in Turkey is not the way to get some of what you want, it does not encourage anybody to help when they (Kurdish Separatists) do to them, (the Turks) what they allege the Turks have done to them.

The P.K.K. have been officially declared a Terrorist organisation and do not have full support support from the Kurdish population.

Its very similar to the Northern Irish problem. for years the I.R.A. were attacking innocent civilian targets in the North of Ireland and on mainland Britain, acts carried out with very little support by the population of the Republic of Ireland.

The Spanish & French are experiencing the same senseless mentality of the Basque terrorists as well.

Considering the Kurds are attacking our allies, the Turks, shouldn't we be helping the Turks? That's where our moral obligation lies.

It is not just moral,it is open undertaking of the USA to protect
the autonomous Kurdistan wich USA has created...
Kurds are not terrorists;fighting for the liberation of one's race
and country doesn't make him a terrorist;this is mr Bush's contention(both of them...) because USA depends on Turkish
bases for the domination of Iraq and for the American goverment closing eyes and ears to the Turkish opression of 15000000 Kurds in Turkey is..simple political expediency...

Some libs needed a qualifier?

Since the AP won't state one, I will:

It's the PKK. And while they are Kurds, the terrorist group represents a fractional percentage of the Kurdish population.

The Kurds who are being bombed are supporters of the Kurdish terrorists who invade Turkey and kill innocent people. They have legimate gripes with Turkey but them killing civilians is no better than Palestinians killing civilians
