A large part of sexual activity whether by yourself or with a partner is emotional. its a nice experience, but if you have not been with a partner for a while, its kind of depressing to not be able to share it with someone you love and trust... and that can make a person at least feel like crying at the very least... you just happened to be at one of those points i assume, and theres nothing wrong with that. I've been there and it is not fun.
I understand your embarrassment but you shouldn't be... it happens to a lot more people than you think... after all we are ALL wired with emotions although some of us show them more than others... and unfortunately emotions don't always follow a logical path. (Although i truly wish they did lol!!)
You got to try feeling better about it, and about yourself in general. Everyone has a sad point in thier life, but things will look up. By the way you wrote what you did, it seems you are working on feeling better about yourself in general, and i wish you the best of luck

Tell your therapist. She has a PHD, we do not.
I cry when I masturbate when I'm getting over someone or get reminded of someone who I used to like but have gotten over and he just flashes in my mind. it doesn't happen all the time. It's sorta of a sadness that things can't work out between us. It's normal, there is so much feeling behind orgasm that it would be natural to feel sad that you can't share it in your mind with that person anymore.
There could be a million reasons why this would make you cry. You miss intimacy, you might feel like a loser that you can only get your hand, you might have some unresolved issues with the last guy you were with you need to get over, or another guy before. It could be that you miss being close to people and that because masturbation is a replacement for sex which is a very close experience between 2 people and you may want closeness with someone. Sometimes people who are sad cry at weird times.
Your therapist knows more about your and everything than we do. Talking to her will resolve this. We can only guess.

You said that your last relationship ended badly and obviously masturbation is an intimate and personal sort of thing, it's completely natural that the two would be connected. I'm not a therapist of course, but just from what I've read it seems like maybe something in the back of your mind associated what you were doing to the feelings you experienced in your negative relationships possibly? Former negative feelings sometimes pop up at the WORST possible times!!! I hope you don't worry yourself too much about this. It honestly doesn't seem like anything more than a one-time brief emotional melt-down. We all have them.
Hope things can go better for you from now on! :)

I would think it might somehow be related to the reason you are seeing the therapist. I don't know what those reasons are, but you did say that you're not in a relationship and the last one ended badly. Maybe you are lonely? Frustrated that you aren't in a relationship? I don't know your reasons for masturbating, so I can't say you're using it as a coping mechanism. Most people do it because they aren't in a relationship, for relaxation purposes, to relieve tension, etc. If you do it often and that bothers you, maybe you should figure out your reasons for doing it and that will give you the answer you are looking for (as to why it made you cry.) Best wishes.

It is possible that you experienced a simultaneous release of both sexual and emotional tension (hence the crying). Given both that you are in therapy and that you tend to suppress emotion outside of session, this seems a particularly plausible explanation.
Hang in there,

Don't be afraid to tell your therapist. He/she is there to help. Those with depression will cry for no reason whatsoever. I should know because I do it too sometimes (not masterbate...just crying).
Talk it over with your therapist. They will know why it's going on.

UNTIL YOU TRY IT A FEW MORE TIMES YOU WON'T KNOW IF IT WAS A ONE TIME THING OR A NEW PATTERN IN YOUR LIFE . IF IT TURNS OUT TO BE A ONE TIME THING -----COULD BE TEARS OF JOY OR JUST RELIEF FROM BUILT UP STRESS . IF IT'S A NEW PATTERN ?
