Hi guys

I have found a few walls in my home have (rising?) Damp.

What do any handymen/tradesmen recommend the best way to keep the damp from entering my home without tearing down the wall.

The Damp appears in Black Patchy spots.

10 points to best answer once tryed.

Many Thanks

unless you have a leaky pipe, then either the roof or siding is leaking. the most common place for siding to leak is around the windows. try caulking them first. the roof will leak near any valley or by the chimney. you can use Karnak by either of those. keep in mind that both are temporary fixes and need to be addressed. as for the black spots, that is most likely mold and definitely needs to be taken care of. bleach will work but the best thing to kill mold is a product called "Impact". look it up online. it will kill and provent mold on contact.

find the source of the water. If the walls in question are underground, then there is inadequate waterproofing on the outside of the wall next to the ground. The solution for that is to dig down outside the foundation, dry it out and properly waterproof it.

A cheaper solution that may help is to landscape so that water runs away from the foundation and to make sure that gutters are in good shape and working properly and that the water runs away from your foundation.

If the dampness is in above ground walls, find the source of the water. Is is coming from a small leak in a pipe? From the roof? From a leaking window? From excess humidity inside the home? Find the source and eliminate it and the dampness will go away.

its water damage i have had it and come spring i have repaired the walls myself i have puttied and repainted over the damage try to keep the snow or water whatever is causing it away from that side of your home if it is snow go shovel it out the only thing i can tell you is your going to have to repair the walls yourself unless you have the funds for someone to come in spring time to do it for you good luck.
