Your question is a little unclear, but it sounds as though you are asking whether it is better to "play the field" or to be "serially monogamous." The thing is, you have to be aware, that at any age, your dating history comes with you - and the older you get, the more dating history you have. One hopes that, the older you get, the more you have learned about yourself and what is truly important to you! If you are asking this question, however - and if you are actually middle-aged, however you classify that age group - it makes me think that you don't really know what you want. You are probably not going to change your basic personality and your "issues", whatever your own personal baggage happens to be - if you have never been really serious about anybody, and are a real commitment-phobe, then it really doesn't matter, because either way you will have a bunch of shallow meaningless relationships. I >will< tell you that IMO, it is really stupid to just jump right into a committed relationship, because then you are following the rituals of commitment without having any real reason or substance behind it. You need to figure out what it is you really want.
