my dog has kennel cough and just wondering if it is contagious to a cat

Cats actually are susceptible to Bordetella bronciseptica, although it does not present the same in them as it does with dogs. Ask your vet about this because it's quite complex actually - and obviously, get the cat to the vet if he develops any unusual symptoms. I doubt your cat would get it unless he's very young, very old or immunosuppressed however.

EDIT: OK after changing my answer about 10 times have checked with a vet; it presents like cat 'flu so watch out for runny eyes/nose/sneezing in your cat.

No, not inter-species contagious.
But other canines can definitely catch easily.
