I am not a huge know-it-all technology person. I am getting my parents a new TV for x-mas and I have no clue what I need to get started. I'm buying it secondhand and therefore I don't have the instructions. Does anyone know?

First things first. Do they have cable, dish or air? Next if cable where do they live. Check to see if the cable comp. has a good HD package. If they don't then why get it. HDMI or COMPONENT are the two ways to connect HD from cable. (CABLE INSTALLER thats why I know) my cable comp. does not have a good package so I don't get it. If you have any other questions please ask

You need them to upgrade to HD signals.

Standard television looks crappy on a HD display because of the high-resolution display.

Your parents might be able to use an antenna. Type their address into Antennaweb and see. If so - look for the $30 Phillips Silver Sensor (classic).
