I started with the bug last night around 730 pm... knock on wood i haven't vomited since around 3 or 4 this morning, however i still have diarrhea. I don't really want to eat anything but im looking for what things are safe to drink to keep fluids in me... fluids that wont cause vomiting please!.... I know people usually say ginger ale but that makes me want to vomit..... so far ive tried ice water... should i stay away from sugary drinks such as Gatorade and juices? Last night i tried Popsicles and they came up... however i tried one Popsicle today and its stayed down... when is it safe to try saltines and rice? (bland stuff) like i said i don't feel like eating though.

You should ALWAYS start with 'tap water' (no ice) ... and only add ice if you can't keep teaspoons of tap water down. The next step is to add electrolytes ... get some 'Pedialite' from the pharmacist to keep on hand (it's for kids, but is actually good for a sick adult, too). Next have some PLAIN WHITE RICE ... only a tablespoon or two every fifteen minutes for two hours. Then start on saltines. If you can eat five whole saltines and keep them down for an hour, add banana (fresh), applesauce, and 'pekoe tea.' That will help stop the diarrhea and will also 'settle your digestion' so you can start to eat 'properly' again. Don't start eating 'real food' right away, and stay on the BRAT (banana, rice, applesauce, tea) diet for at least three days, then introduce 'spices' and more regular food. I'm sorry you feel so lousy and hope you feel better very soon.

The most common remedy is the BRAT diet.

BRAT stands for bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast.

The toast part can be any bland carb, including saltine crackers, untoasted bread, and pasta.

A little more salt than usual is good when you have stomach troubles, because it helps you retain water, helping with dehydration.

Your best bet for liquids is water and weak tea. Don't go for caffeinated or sweetened stuff, both can make dehydration and diarrhea worse, this means sodas and sports drinks, and popcicles. Also avoid dairy, and broth in my personal experience doesn't help me either, neither does the acid of fruit juice. Plenty of liquids but don't guzzle them, just frequent sips. Even if your liquids don't stay down, drink them. It is better to throw them back up than to dry heave or lose fluids. In time your stomach will settle.

When you start to feeling better, you can try things like chicken noodle soup, a little soda, plain pancakes or biscuits, mac and cheese, or whatever. Basically the brat diet with some embellishments and mild flavor.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

Get started today!

if you are having diarrhea, you need to take "oral rehydration salts" i think its available in drug stores. its marketed as "hydrite" in southeast asia. m not sure in other countries. you need to replace your loses with rehydration salts so as not to have electrolyte imbalance and dehydration. Gatorade would be very beneficial at this time because it replaces electrolytes and fluids in your body that you lost. they do have the same mechanism as "oral rehydration salts' so drink plenty of them. if your diarrhea does not stop after 3 days, it would be suggestive of an infection rather than a simple case of stomach virus and it would be better to consult a doctor because antibiotics may be needed,

Get clear liquids in your body. If you urine is real yellow, you are dehydrating. Ice water is not good. Room temperature is better. Pedolite is good as well. Not just for babies. Saltines are good because the salt will help you to retain water.

You want to drink 7-Up to settle the stomach, drink water for the loss of fluids.

Eat lightly; crackers, rice, bland.
