...Religion has provided a frame work with which the human animal can easily interact with abstract concepts (such as God). Without this, we may never have fully developed into who we are as a species.
The negative side of religion (the ridiculous ideologies etc) are just a 'hangover' effect from the original 'great leap forward'.
The usefulness of religion will have run it's course when a critical mass of the world population finally break free of it's grip and provide the impetus to move us into the next age.

I understand where you're coming from. People would be happier and not have to endure pain and suffering for the sake of religion. If religion never existed, there would be no religious wars and no religious persecution.
But religion gives people hope. Hope is the basis of any religion - hope for a better life in the next world. Most of the people in the world are poor and live in bad conditions and have to deal with poor housing, disease, malnutrition - they need religion to keep going day after day. They need someone to pray to, in the hopes that there really is something better.
Perhaps a better question is "Wouldn't it be wonderful if hate and intolerance never existed?" If everyone got along and could tolerate each other, peace would exist. And with peace, there is no war or persecution.

If sin never existed then neither would religion. All religion is just man trying to find himself. If every man already knew who he truly was there would be no need for any religious discipline. If you accept Christ and His Holy Spirit into your life and surrender completely to that reality then you do not need religion either, because you are reborn into the state of mind that Adam and Even had before they sinned. "Sin is being off target." The target is ultimate Truth, and Truth and God are the same thing.

The place of the Roman Emperor Constantine in Christianity is ultimate understood if we understand "the city of God" differs from "the city of guy." additionally, examine in the letters of John the place it says do no longer love the international or something in the international for guy who loves the international has no longer the affection of the daddy in him. i've got self belief Constantine used Christianity to help carry the Roman Empire collectively. It labored in the fast run. I question his convienient conversion at Milan. The Empire of Rome became into nevertheless in shambles under some many years later. he's no longer the only flesh presser to objective and manage Christianity for political benefit. there is no longer area right here for a dialogue of ways the embracing of the Roman Empire added in distorted teachings on Easter, Christmas, the priesthood, confession, transubstation, a guy forgiving sin and assigning penance--Jesus is the only individual who can do this. Frankly, i think of the Christian Church might and is extra suitable devoid of those mispractices. consequently, the Church may well be extra suitable and purer if Constantine had under no circumstances ruled. The form Church became into the Church of Acts. It had great religious capability and enhance, and no political capability. compliment God in the sixteenth Century Martin Luther tried to convey us returned to this simplier and extra Biblical Church, nonpolitical yet very holy Acts.

Probably. I don't know. As an atheist my immediate answer would be, yes, but the non-existence of religion won't stop evil and corruption from existing, despite whatever additional damage that religion has caused to millions in each generation over the years.

I don't think religion is a problem, I think the problems come when people try to change other people, or use religion as an excuse for their misdeeds.
When religion is simply a personal belief, it's a good thing.

Somewhat better, but not wonderful of necessity.
There are plenty of other grounds for wars, exploitation and general cruelty one human group to another.
Tribalism, from the family to the nation state, for example.
The absence of religion alone ushers in no Utopia.
Not a bad first step, I'd agree.

It would be wonderful dear if a lot of thing's ceased to exist dear. America needs churches and people to believe in God and love the baby Jesus. It's written on our money in our US culture and social standing religion and the church is what makes our country greatest in the world.

Considering what religion has given us
--- 600 years of Dark Ages
--- 200 years of Crusades
--- 600 years of Inquistions
It is very easy to say yes, it would have been wonderful if religion never existed. It certainly couldn't have been much worse.

You mean where everyone could just do what they want with no rules? Since most of our laws are based on the 10 Commandments we wouldn't have laws. So rape, murder, stealing, homosexuality and etc. would just be the norm. The strongest would be able rule as they saw fit. And don't say it would revert to do unto others as you would have them do to you because that comes from the Bible. You had better think of what you are asking for.
