Santa was very busy this year and dropped the presents off early on condition that his Mum didn't give them to him before Christmas.

How old is the child? A toddler probably won't realize what happened. I know my 2 year old has seen a couple of her presents, but I'm not too worried because she doesn't understand the whole Santa Clause thing yet anyway. But if the child is old enough to understand then I would simply tell them that Santa was extra extra busy this Christmas so he had to start early. She could say that she had to call him to find out what was going on (because of the lag between her excuse and when the child found the presents) and that is what he told her. You could even be elaborate and have someone call pretending to be Santa to talk to the kid... :)

She could just say that Santa left everything there for safe keeping. I remember when I was a kid (the oldest of 6 at the time, later oldest of 9), we found our gifts from "Santa" in my parent's storage closet. After some of us got over the shock, we kept it secret, and looked forward to the gifts we were getting. Kids instinctively know after a certain age that Santa is more an idea than a real person, and then can tell our parents directly what we want "Santa" to get for us!

depending on the age of the child you can say that santa dropped those presents off for mommy and that your presents will come on christmas. then wrap them and put them where he cant find them until you want him to open them. this worked with my 5 year old nephew i told him those toys were mine and when he opened them christmas morning he was excited he got toys just like me.

Tell him Santa dropped off the gifts early because his elves couldn't wrap all of them by themselves. So you/your friend is going to wrap them for Santa. And next year, try hiding them at a neighbor's house or in the attic.

Perhaps the parents could tell the child that Santa had a HUGE list this year, and had to deliver the gifts early. Santa had asked the parents to help out and wrap them for him. Also tell the child that they were sorry he/she found the gifts before they had the chance to wrap them for Santa.

Well, I hope she's learnt to hide better or wrap up a bit quicker.
Why not suggest turning it into a game - don't wrap the presents but hide them around the house and write treasure clues to where and what might be hiding.

Tell him she's minding them for Santa. That's how I found out about Santa. It was November and I brought the toys downstairs and started playing with them!

were they wrapped? if they were, she could say they are for someone else or tell him santa had too many presents to keep in his workshop so had to drop them off early and will be back on xmas eve to put them under the tree. if hes really young he probably wont even remember it by next year.

she could tell him that santa will be coming back especially to wrap his presents because he's his favorite little boy, but he has to go to sleep before santa arrives....
