I messed up both knees after a rolling fall on XC skis (non-release bindings!).Stretched tendons, pulled the bone away a bit, bad things to MCL. Took months to walk ok again, a year to ski gently (was a bad snow year anyway), and now after 2 years they are pretty much ok (still ache if I sit too long), but I am quite paranoid and keep up exercises to keep my legs and knees quite strong to hold the knees together better.

I was seriously battered by a snowboarder who was buzzing skiers in a family ski zone. He hit me from behind, put me 25 feet through the air, gave me a very serious concussion that required many tests and I lost the best powder season in 5 years. I was wearing a helmet or he would have killed me. The felon left the scene of the crime without stopping and left me unconscious in the snow.
I'm 6' and 230 lbs, also an expert skier. He hit from behind.
Over the years I've been skiing, I've had 4 sled rides, 2 were Achilles tendon injuries in the early 70's (worn out boots), 2 concussions. The equipment now in use has eliminated most of the injuries, the problem is lack of courtesy and inexperience.
Do enjoy the sport. Jim.

Worse thing I've done is blow my ACL. It's the only time I needed Ski Patrol assistance to get off the slopes.

I've bruised my arms, legs, butt, back, chest, and most other parts on more than one occasion.

Sprained some fingers...on several occasions.

Pulled muscles..just about everywhere.

The herniated discs in my neck are no doubt at least partially a result of falls and near-concussions.

Hit some trees a few times...but nothing more than a contusion and a few lacerations.

Ripped my hand up a few times when skiing on warm days without gloves. Ain't nothing like taking a spill on the hill and punching through a few inches of ice crystals. Bloody knuckles are not cool...and it freakin' stings. ALWAYS wear gloves.

Had the wind knocked out of me on a few collisons with snowboarders and after a few bad landings.

Have to say...I never had anything serious. Can't say the same for some people.

I have been snowboarding for about 15 years. I have broken my wrist, dislocated my shoulder twice, and got a compound humeral fracture that required air medevac and 20 days in the hospital. I still ride though. You gotta go hard or go home!
