once we have independence i am sure the Scottish soldiers would fulfil the obligation they have. they may be granted discharges to come home and serve in our own defence.
we will fund our own military. and we would not need or want the English army on our shores.. i am sure we would still work together as friends should.
yes we will have our own or we would go neutral

Scottish soldiers are very much part of the British Army and always have been. An Independent Scotland will make no difference.
Since Irish citizens are able join the British Army, the same rule would apply to Scotland.

Lots of Scots at Waterloo including the world famous Royal Scots Greys.
F1 is not the same since a former officer of the above regiment left it.

Brilliant question. I have wondered this myself.
I would presume that they would remain in the British Army in which they have enlisted with perhaps an option to move to a scottish regiment?
British Army would still need to be in Scotland in order to protect are shores from all sides.
Who would fund Scotlands Independant Army?

thats an interesting question. would scotland be able to afford it's own army?
would it have a token force made up of the traditional regiments, or would effective control of the forces remain in England? I don't think that scotland would be able to afford a token army, navy, and air force. The republic of ireland has about 10,000 active servicemen and the total defence spending is roughly £700 million or 0.7% GDP. The equivalent spending for Scotland (currently £83 billion GDP) plus a deduction of £28 billion from England would leave £125 million (not including the £28 billion shortfall) which wouldn't be enough for an effective force (such as offshore protection, drug interdiction, aiding civil powers). Maybe the best solution would be to find what benefits both nations?

Scotland would not need anything more than a small defence force, this would be paid for by Scotland..
Unfortunately the english believe that we would not be able to afford Independence, WAKE UP, Scotland pay's a lot more into the UK than it takes out, so paying wouldn't be an issue!
Scotland would be a better neighbour than a bitter enemy, england should thank their luck that we dont, and wont, use the same method's the Irish did..........

Scotland is not going anywhere. Scotland is like Puerto Rico is to the States. Always threatening, never doing.
Scottish soldiers will be allowed to remain in the British army if it is their desire to do so. That is, if this nonsense ever comes to pass.

Have spoken with current serving Scotts Officers, as this is a very real and hot topic. The feeling is that career prospects would not be good in a Scottish Army. The general line of though would be to transfer back into the British Army asap.

It will never happen, Scotland cannot afford to run itself without donations from the BRITISH Taxpayer.
These people joined the British Military and swore allegiance to Queen and Britain, so they will serve out their time.
Also there is no reason to think Scotland will be getting its own military force.
Being in the E.U. is about bringing countries into a common group not creating independent mini states or kingdoms.
