The cat is fully awake and only does this with me and not my wife.

It might be yawning as we do if your cat has been very relaxed, or could be the cat saying "I'm friendly and pose no threat". It breaks up the outline of the face and eyes partly close which makes them look a lot less agressive to other cats.

If they hiss at you then that's the opposite, but I'm guessing that's not the case. Oh and doubtful you're boring him since no doubt you're providing the food.

I think your cat is very relaxed so when you approach your cat the cat gets excited and starts to come alive and yawns as a reaction to becoming more stimulated. It's a good sign to see your cat do this because you cat likes you. Make sure you show your cat some attention at this point to further make your cat feel even better about you as its guardian and care taker.

Do Cats Yawn

I'm not a cat expert but I do have some cats. They yawn many times, whether I'm near them or not. I don't think it means anything. Your cat probably yawns just as much when you aren't around.

A yawn can rev up a sleepy mind. The cat is reving up for your presence!

Maybe your cat isnt so much bored but wanting you to sit down and relax with him/her. As people often needs remired that we need to sit down and take it easy once in a while.

Taking in oxygen to his brain. He's gearing up to interact with you. If you bored him, he would just remove himself from your vicinity. And - was he deeply sleeping? Then this too is a way of waking up and getting oxygen into his system.

Hrm... that's tricky. It's hard to ask a cat what they think.

Do you let him sit on your lap to take a nap often? Maybe he associates you with nap time if he's frequently napping on his personal human pillow.

No, i think this might be just a coincidance or the cat may have a strange way of liking/disliking you. Either way, i'm sure it's not too bad. I hope this helps. Thanks. =]
