Biblical Prophets like Solomon,Abraham,David had multiple wives. Is it better for any individual to be betrothed to say 2 wives than to have one and have an affair with another woman on the sly.

As for Polyandry(woman having multiple husbands) its difficult to identify the real father,so no one will take responsibility of the offspring.
Of course now with dna this maybe possible but its costly, hazardous and a severe psychological ordeal for the kids.
And dna tests could sometimes be not accurate.
As for polygamy the father is certain

Piercedip, DNA tests are 98.99999999% reliable when done by a reputable source you say but its not 100 percent,so there is a semblance of doubt.

Its only good if I get to have a couple husbands too
*DNA tests are 98.99999999% reliable when done by a reputable source
*a simple cheek swab is not going to have an adverse affect on a child, when it can be done at 3 days old.
*if the men are "god" fearing, responsible men, why would they not all take part in raising the child, as the women do in a polygamist relationship?
---->your points are all mute, polygamy is not the answer to anything other than selfishness.

Polygamy is for one man to marry several women, how about the equivalent right for women, so a woman could be married to several men?
The solution is free sex for consenting adults, and a very generous state support for all children, so women will not have to depend on marriage as an economic base to support their children.
that will make adultery a dead concept.

Great example of religion used once again to enslave women. It'll be 2008 soon my friend. I think women should have 2, 3 or even 4 husbands.

tallthat: Very interesting answer. However, the Bible is very clear that if a woman divorces her husband, she causes him to commit adultrey. This could be interpreted many ways. What say you?

Most people misunderstand adultery.
Adultery is a married man, having sexual relations with a married woman not his wife.
Having an affair with a single woman is not adultery, so I don't think polygamy is the anwser.

I think that islam has the best approach. They have no adultery there. Instead, they have 1 hour marriages.

In your question, it seems that women are objects with no will of their own. Are they free to marry more than one man also?
