My husband spoke to him yesterday on the phone and i am trying to figure this one out. He has a beautful pick-up truck, and he mentioned how it is in the churches' name. so when we tithe, we are paying his truck payment because it's in the churches' name? This seems somewhat shady to me....what do you all think?

The real question here is whether you are going to follow Scripture and Christ, or follow a minister who abuses Scripture.
Tithing was an old covenant command. Like other points of law found in the old covenant, they lapsed with that covenant. The new covenant does not incorporate the old. If your minister claims otherwise, he is lying. Are you going to follow a liar, or are you going to prove this for yourself? The deceived people accept what they are told, with only a superficial application and examination of Scripture.
Tithes were the tenth of the increase of produce and livestock only. Tithes were never assessed of anyone's wages.
Does your minister have the right to not only incorporate old covenant points of law into Christianity, but to alter those laws in order to suit him and he desires?
Only wolves use tithing as a means of garnering financial support. Or what did you think; That wolves would pull a gun on their congregations?
So what is it going to be? Are you going to start studying Scripture earnestly, or are you going to continue to be misled by wolves -- wolves in sheep's clothing, who therefore look and act like sheep -- a nice person and "servant of God?"
You have been warned. If you continue as you are, then when you stand before God, don't say you were not warned.

If the truck is in the churches name, he shouldn't be using it for personal use. Like hauling a boat for a family trip or like that. If he visits the sick, hauls firewood to the poor, etc. He's doing the Lord's work...however, no pastor should be flaunting some big joy toy. If he is, he's doing the same thing alot of us do...dodging taxes...Christians aren't the only ones who do that...right? If the shoe fits, wear it.

Church's normally supply a place to live and a car for the pastor. They don't get paid a lot of money other than that. Depending where you live, if you are in the country and he may be visiting people where the roads are not good or everybody else has a pickup or 4WD, then that is totally normal as far as I'm concerned.
He doesn't get to keep the car, in case you're wondering that.

Part of the answer has to do with the stupid tax laws. If your "church" provides transportation, then the "wage" the pastor has to pay taxes on is less. (I think that is how it works) Likewise if the church supplies housing and "insists" that the pastor live there, then it is counted differently for tax purposes. The workman hopefully is worthy of his hire, and hopefully is leading people to the Savior YAHOSHUA.

I've wondered the simular question.... How come the TV preachers that ask their audience to send money to help feed the poor in Africa are wearing large diamond rings and designer clothes? They could sell those things and feed many of the poor instead of asking the viewers to send money.

LOL! Whoa... tax-writeoff. That's WRONG. Period. Your question of tithing is valid and I would be asking it also. But to have a piece of personal property in the church's name? So it's simply the "church truck" and he won't be taking it with him if/when he leaves??

does he use it for church business such as visiting the sick, helping to bring supplies and such to and from the church, going to meet with those requiring his services as a minister? if that is the case, especially if he is the only pastor at your church then i see no reason why it shouldn't be a company vehicle

Ding Ding Ding... thats why you should revert to Catholicism or Orthodoxy. No more pastors driving hummers with 26 inch rims to their fat cribs in the burbs; while their "clients" who work 40+ hours a week, make ends meat, and spend their hard earned cash on groceries, health insurance and utlities.

I think getting paid to read someone a book for a few hours a week is stupid. Your herder put the truck in the churches name to avoid having to pay taxes on it...essentially he is stealing money from the tax payers and should be in jail.
