Can you believe this guy?

I think some of those christians don't even realise what atheism means. They think atheists *know* that there's a god, but they just deliberately dissobey. This guy didn't even want to find answers, he just wanned someone to aprove him.

What's your opinion?

My D, I didn't attack all christians. As you can see, I wrote "some christians". I am not generalising. Thank you for not trying to change my mind

kwistenbiebel, not a bad idea, but I'm not sure everyone will agree

Mystine G, actually I was looking to share what I saw with other people and to get a second opinion

pppp, this question is not about my beliefs, it's about your lack of understanding. You just made my point.

Oh and just for your information, I did read a big part of the bible and I dissagree your beliefs. I supose that makes me an evil person in your view

shereen b, I am not an atheist :) See how you jump into conclusions without knowing?

2007-12-22 22:55:51 · update #5

Mystine G, I can't prove you wrong, I can't prove you my real intentions, in fact I don't even know what exactly aproval would be in my case. I didn't state my beliefs, you most certenly don't know wich those are. I got used with being missunderstood around here and I guess it's no longer a surprise

Dirk, what you say may be real for atheists (I have seen examples), but not for agnostics, since completely denying the possibility for a diety is against what agnostics are. By deffinition an agnostic does not say "it can't be real", not believe it is.

a lot of people only want agreement, you have that right.

I am a Christian and asked a question on Why Christians are acting so evil in this forum. An honest question (more detailed that that, but you have the idea) and the question was deleted because of Community Guidelines and/or Terms Of Service Violation.

Honest question, had about 40 answers (most were vile and hateful) and the complaint was I had a bad question, not the "I hate you" answers I got. Most answers were not to the question asked, people didn't like the question so they answered their own question.

I agree, with you and will go one step beyond and say that most Christians don't even realise what atheism means, and in Y!A most Christians will come back and say you are bad for your belief.

Yeah, I too grow tired of people who claim that atheists really do believe in god but just won't admit it so they can do bad things or whatever. Give me a break! There are a lot of people on here that ask questions for the sole purpose of finding others that will validate what they already think. I asked a question similar to this awhile ago. Here's the link:

Fellow atheist or agnostic, I have heard and read so many atheists call believers stupid or ignorant, that I can't see how any atheist could really take offense to these kind of questions (and answers). I've heard less of such comments from agnostics, but it happens as well.

In any case, I don't see why we should be upset by such misunderstanding. The problem is that many believers have experienced god directly (ahem, at least they believe they have), so they assume that others must have had the same experience. Ergo they believe that atheists and agnostics must be willfully ignoring that "knowledge" for some reason.

Incidentally, atheists and agnostics make the same mistake from the other side: they belittle the god experience. Sure enough, it is possible that any transcendental experience is just a brain malfunction, but that is not provable. Most of us are quite happy to cause a little brain malfunction from time to time (alcohol/nicotine/...), and all of use are subjected to it from time to time without being asked (depression/anxiety/optimism/...).

So let's celebrate this fragile, fractured organ we call our brain, and not dwell too much on how everyone else is using theirs.

That's just how things usually work here in Y!A. At first it was a dilemma for me. Do I answer for points or for conviction? Its easy to figure out what an asker really wants to hear, but it usually isn't what i want to put. I just decided to start giving answers that were true to me, or ones that would make people laugh. Unfortunately they are the sames ones that get me thumbs down, and hardly ever picked for best answer. I hate it when someone ask atheists a question and then gives the answer to a rubber stamping Christian. But what can you do? Life is hard. Why shouldn't Y!A reflect that.

I think most people already have an answer formulated in their head and look for a similar one in the responses they receive. Nothing wrong with that - he can pick whatever he wants as a best answer. Some atheists do the same when ridiculing Christians.

Thats no wonder, the question was asked by a theist, hence he chose the answer which matches with his ideology as the ''best answer''.

If an atheist asked a question degrading the concept of so called god, then he might have chosen the one which curses 'god' most, as the "best answer".

People get endorphin rushs from all sorts of stimuli. Personally, I've seen religous zealouts get a 'high' from ranting and pontificating that matches anything cocaine could do for them.

But, also, I'm not an athiest or agnostic. I just know that when the fundies 'go off' on someone, it isn't making our case much stronger.

Get this.....I responded to a question with these worrds:

"An atheist does NOT believe in any god or gods."

I got hate mail from a certain person who calls himself a "Man Man Man".....He said, "You're STUPID. Atheists do not believe in God."

I could not reply, as he did not accept email.

How can he not see that I said the same thing he did, yet he said I was stupid for not knowing it?

I also find it amazing that the 1st question he picked as the best answer had 2 thumbs up and 21 thumbs down and the 2nd question he picked as the best answer has 1 thumbs up and 10 thumbs down. Ignorance is bliss isn't it?
