There is no such rating as Dental Technician any longer in the United States Navy. A few years ago that rate was merged into the Hospital Corpsman rating.
Here is an edit for the author of the question. YOU ARE GOING TO BE AN HM, NOT A DT. THERE IS NO SUCH RATING AS DT IN THE UNITED STATES NAVY. GET OVER YOURSELF. WHY WOULD WE LIE TO YOU? WE, UNLIKE YOU, ARE ACTUALLY IN THE NAVY AS OF RIGHT NOW.

On 1 October 2005, the Navy merged DT (Dental tech) with HM (Hospital Corpsman). So now there are no DTs in the Navy. Just HMs with Dental NECs.
Refer to this acticle: http://www.yuma.usmc.mil/desertwarrior/archive/2005/october/oct-13-2005/october132005.pdf
HMs are stationed all over, Every ship has at least one HM. Some HMs are assigned to Marine units as the medic. HMs with a DT NEC will more than likley be stationed on a carrier or large amphibious ship with an actual dental clinic. Some HMs with DT codes will crosss train and can be in Marine units.

The first answer is correct. The Dental Technician rate was merged into that of the Hospital Corpsman rate. It is merely a series of separate NECs within the Hospital Corps rate.

yes i'm in the usn, they merged the dt and hm rates about 2-3 years ago and now all dt's are actually hm's. hm's are stationed on ships, shore commands, and with the usmc.
