DIABETES TYPES 1 AND 2 -

Type 1 is called "childhood onset", meaning that the individual contracted the disease in childhood or was born with the condition. It's usually the result of a pancreas that produces no insulin.

Type 2 is called "adult onset", meaning that the individual did not have the disease in the past but contracted the diabetes later in life. It's usually the result of the body becomming unable to use the insulin produced. Many of the newer medications allow type 2 diabetics to get by without the insulin injections. The newer medications allow many people to again use the insulin that their pancreas produces.-

In type 1 diabetes, your pancrease is not producing sufficient insulin. Therefore, you need to take insulin shots.

In type 2, your body is usually producing sufficient insulin, but your blood cells are insulin resistent. Type 2 can often be controlled by diet and exercise, but there are also pills that help your cells process insulin.

Type 1 is basically when someone's pancreas does not produce any insulin.

Type 2 is basically when their pancreas does produce insulin but not enough or it doesn't exactly know where to go.

Years ago they were considered child onset or adult onset. Type 2 is usually diet, lack of exercise, etc. induced, although genetics do play a heavy role.

diabetes consists of two types..1 and 2

-Diabetes type 1:

- also called Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus ( IDDM )
- present mainly in the childhood period in about 90% of type 1 diagnosed patients.
- coused by INSULIN INSUFFECIENCY... NO INSULIN IS SECRETED AT ALL FROM THE PANCREAS.
- treated by INJECTING INSULIN
- poor diabetes-controlling patients will have many complications as:

NEUROPATHY,NEPHROPATHY,RETINOPATH, and KETOACIDOSIS as a charachtaresitc complication in type 1

Diabetes type 2 :

- also called NON-INSULIN DEPENDENT DIABETES MELLITUS ( NIDDM )
- present in the old people...about 45 years old.
- caused by DECREASED INSULIN SECRETION or by INSULIN-RECEPTORS DYSFUNCTIONING.
- treated with ORAL HYPOGLYCEMIC AGENTS ( OHA )
- poor diabetes controlling patiens will have same complications in type 1 BUT KETOACIDOSIS is much less common in type 2.
