Evolution is just is. It is apparently going to happen regardless of whether someone believes in it or not. Evolution isn't going to pay bills, go to work for someone, or help someone through the day. So what of the big whoop about evolution? Evolution is about as important in my life as how many inches a year my hair grows. So what is the big deal about evolution?

Addition:
Evolution is not important in my day to day life. It is slow and it is like watching a plant grow. Evolution is something, yet it is nothing. It is just happening. There is nothing special about evolution.

If I jumped off a bridge I might just die. Now tell me how can I challenge evolution? Rearranging my DNA is impossible. Not believing or believing in evolution will not kill me.

Addition:
The only way that evolution can affect my life is if I had a boss named "Mr. Evolution". and I can get fired by him. Other than that who cares?

Skeptic:
Being interested in something, is one thing; what that interest has to do with a day to day things is another. Everyone is interested in something, everyone has a hobby. Evolution is not noticed in my day to day life. Evolution is important, and when something new comes out or is discovered that is connected to evolution, it is like a big media event. Everyone is excited and then life goes on as usual. It gets melted into the framework.

Well when my car breaks down, I know that I should be thankful for evolution that I can walk upright. I just don't think about it. It is apart of being a human. What have you done for me lately applies to taking me out to dinner, it is a bit over the top to apply it to evolution. I know it happens, it is there, but it is not a big deal in every day life. To you maybe, because that is apart of your job. Not to the person working at Wal-mart.

You know what Desi, in many ways I agree with you.

Evolution does not really affect most people. They can live their lives not thinking about it and be perfectly OK.

To be sure, there are some people where it is critical that they understand it... Epidemiologist, and medical researchers that are involved with disease of infection must have a good understanding (the person who will cure AIDS will be an evolutionist). Anyone who works with breeds of plants or animals needs a pretty good understanding. And of course, anyone studying geology, biology, or any of the historical sciences must have a good understanding. Or perhaps you're like me and you want to understand ecosystems, and how they have changed and how they might change in the era of global climate change.

But just as people could live without understanding chemistry, most people could go on and it won't matter that much.

Unless you happen to be interested in how things got to be the way they are.

Aren't you interested in where we've come from? Don't you wonder why Panda bears have a 6th digit that acts as a thumb? Aren't you interested to know why life has been so different in the past than it is today?

Maybe you aren't. Many religious people feel threatened by evolution, but even I (an atheist) know that their fear is unwarranted. Many people have a good understanding of evolution and are strong believers in God or Christianity. I have been unable to find fault in their reasoning.

But this has left us with an important conclusion: If the Bible was written by God, it is not meant to be taken literally (at least some of the time).

Evolution didn't "spawn beings." It does now not give an explanation for the starting place of existence, however the way it built after it originated. It does not sound like your query is honest (specially in that final assertion). But there's a LOT of fabric available in the market that explains feelings to an quantity you normally assumed wasn't even viable--Intelligent Design undoubtedly does not present any truly clarification of some thing. If you're TRULY open to finding out, and don't seem to be going to simply overlook what I'm approximately to furnish with ease considering the fact that it has not anything to do with shrewd layout, then examine my supply out. I promise you, it is just the top of the iceberg. If it will get you curious, you'll be able to discover extra in-intensity components at a library, whether or not inside it bodily, or via your neighborhood library's entry to databases, which probably incorporate the ones of medical literature.

The controversy lies more in forcing creationism down the throats of kids in schools.

You may not think it affects your every-day life, but then again you probably don't think much about what exactly is occuring when you take antibiotics, or get your flu shot.

Creationism can not explain much of the biomedical phenomena of the last 20 or so years. If we allow obviously false, pseudo-scientific "theories" to be taught along side the truth in PUBLIC schools, American education will become even worse than what it already is.

I have no problem with some fool wanting to believe in some nonsense creation story. It is none of my business. It well becomes my business when that fool says I MUST consider it and respect it.

I don't have to do such nor will I.

i think evolution is pure garbage.
dont say that we're part of the monkey family,if you want 2 then go join some chimpanzees. It's IMPOSSIBLE that we came from some ancestors that look like apes! it just woudnt work,if we only take a piece of their DNA,everything will be a disaster and if anything we will be dummer.
Also, dont tell me: OH,BUT THEY MUTATED,and that mutan had a mutan baby and so on.
if it was like that, they would STILL be monkeys!! they CANT mutate up 2 a point where the become humans who are better then apes.

i mean comon, some ppl think whales come from ground-animals...??wtf?? r u saying if we go in the water alot we will become mermen or mermaid??no!!we might get used to the cold(if any) but we wont physicaly change -.-
guys,if u read books AGAINST evolution,u will find there is more proof against evolution and it makes way more sense. like 1 theory says: a cell was made by chance somehow because it was the perfect temprature, all the materiels were there ect..thats impossible, even in the labs they coudnt do that. for ppl that r dumer, heres wut they are saying: we left a thousand bricks,we come back a billion years later, and we find a house. 0.0

but wut do i know? im only in 9th grade.

CREATION FTW-by the way its not only christians that believe in creation, dont forget the muslums.

Have you ever had an infection of any kind? The theory of evolution allows medical researchers to develop new drugs to combat those infections.

Have you ever had a particularly good banana or apple? You can thank evolutionary theory (particularly, the directed application of selective breeding).

Have you ever been able to logically think through a problem? Yes, logic is a direct result of larger cerebrums, due in large part to evolution.

I could go on, but there's not much point. Your question is obviously typical of today's instant gratification, "what have you done for me lately" society.

Somehow the theory of evolution has become the most intense battle between Christians and unbelievers. Apparently there are a number of Christians who maintain that the creation story in Genesis must be literally true. There are a number of atheists who think that evolution explains how life developed without God.

So the controversy isn't over evolution itself but over the existence of God.

The question of evolution strikes at the core of some beliefs. You are a pragmatist (which is a good thing) and so don't get all caught up in its ramifications.

Others however, view the implications of the theory of evolution as dangerous because if it is to be accepted, it logically negates large chunks of their philosophies.

The thing about evolution that is sparking a lot of attention is the fact that it is (supposedly) where humans beings formed from. I'm sure you know what this means, over a course of millions of years we have transformed from animals into what we are today. Just the fact that we are members of the monkey family is what is so interesting about evolution. It is about our past, and possibly, our future.

There are some people who want to force the whole world to believe their fairy tale of creationism, instead of examining the theory of the evolution of life and the universe. They believe that we are god like creatures when all the evidence shows we are part of the animal kingdom.

Evolution is important because it's concepts are used in the biological sciences and you benefit from such research.

It is also important because it challenges many peoples' belief in a god. When something as complex and varied as life can result from random process alone many people feel cheated out of a higher meaning.
