My sanctuary is my yoga mat. It is my small little space where anywhere I may be I know that once I stand at the front of my mat with my hands in anjali mudra that I will find rest. It is there that I listen inside for God and it is there that I honor the divinity of those around me. It is my meditation, my prayer, my home base. It is sacred whether I practice in front of my altar with Ganesha and Buddha, my devotional candle and my incense or in a plain room in someone else's home. I know that divinity is always there as it never ever leaves. I use it to come back to myself, my heart, my humanity, my breath. It brings me pain, peace, calm, chaos but inevitably it teaches me to move closer to the flame of discomfort rather than away thus allowing me to not obey my mind but listen and remain calm. Observing but not reacting. Showing myself compassion teaches me to show compassion to others. My greatest power is here and now and my yoga mat is a place where I relearn this every time.
Beautiful question, Sirius!

My 'sanctuary' is the entire place I'm staying at the moment. I've leased a cabin in the mountains and there isn't another person within 20 kilometres in any direction. I've got nature right outside both my front and my back door. I don't have an alarm clock, I have a kookaburra that wakes me every morning just after sunrise. I go swimming in the fresh, clean water in the creek not far from here and spend my days hiking round the property. I sometimes sleep outside under the stars, and haven't known what time it is in all the time I've been here except when I'm on the computer.

My last big holiday.

By sanctuary I think you mean - "a place of rest"? For me, it has changed through the years, but recently, it is being on the Answers website. In looking at questions in the R&S catagory I need to really think about resonable and honorable answers and I find that peaceful.
As there are questions that arise that are theological in nature, I have my Bible next to me here and I refer to it for referrence. Many times I get sidetracked looking something up and I get "lost in space". I will spend over an hour "researching" a question and that gives me peace in finding out about my God.
I'm here now!

My sanctuary is the place where I love to spend my time which I spare from my professional activities. It is ISKCON temple Delhi. It has taught me to become God conscious.

However, to summarize some of ISKCON's activities in the Delhi are:

· Training courses in the theology, philosophy, history and practices of Vaishnavism.

· "Hare Krishna Festival" teams who introduce large audiences to Vaishnava culture through music, art, dance, theatre, film and food

· Food distribution schemes (Akshaya patra) for the homeless and Schools (Hare Krishna Food for Life) in Delhi.

· A book publishing department and warehouse.

· Mail-order service supplying literature, videos, audiotapes, posters, and incense.

· Vegetarian restaurants and programs on vegetarian cooking.

· Speaking engagements and demonstrations at schools and universities

· Numerous local meetings, centres, shops and the associated activities.

· Animatronics, Robots, Bhagavad-gita, Srimad Bhagavatam, Caitanya caritamrita, and Mahabharata experience (Audio Visual shows).

I prefer to deliver lectures on Scriptures and this gives me solace and a sense of great satisfaction that I have been working on spreading the message of God to masses and this is all because of my sanctuary.

My sanctuary is inside of me! In my T.M. every day. My centre is at my solar plexus., where are my asking, my contemplation. My tools are devotion and thankfulness. My gains are: peace, harmony, calmness, and most of all the unique white light from my Father!
Thanks to you; wish you peace and harmony!

My santuary is my bedroom at night. The house is quiet, all is sleep including everybody in the nieghborhood.

I take advantage of the "quiet". I am able to meditate, thinking what happened during the day. I think of all of my accomplishes, all the things I didn't accomplish, my to do tomorrow list, my will not do list.

I talk to God and tell Him what is in my heart, how I feel, my wants, desires. Thinking about Him gives me the sensation of warmness, relaxation.

Know you not that the temple of God is within you? Sanctuary is where Jesus and the Father reside. It is inside the believer and resides within your spirit. By that spirit the witness to the world is accomplished.

it's a spot in my garden..... under the shade of a huge pine tree, I have a small pond with a waterfall and fountain, so I have the sounds of water to soothe me.... my friends the birds like to hang out near there so I have the sounds of their songs.... and there's always a little breeze to carry the scents of herbs and flowers... so while I swing in my hammock chair, I have all that I love the best about the earth around me....a wonderful place to be at any time.....

The sanctuary you speak of is as Yogini Eggnogini is. Good answer. From this sitting the "i" is not present because when at the centre only that is.

I go there to rest from this world of sin. I go there to hear God's word so that I may grow as a child of God. I go there for fellowship with other believers.
