I work with Japanese people, and some of them, even the men, have done this to their hair. One of them is a lady, with whom I have had several "hair" talks. She says when Japanese (maybe all Asians, not sure) apply blonde dye to their hair, it turns it a dark reddish color. She does this, and she has mostly still black hair with reddish highlights in it. Very pretty. She would have to bleach her hair to get it light enough to become blonde, and then her roots would be such a stark contrast, it would have to be maintained every other week. If you are Asian and are thinking about going blonde, DON'T.

It's bleaching, possibly with coloring after bleaching. It is not possibe to color to a lighter color. You have to bleach first.
Stictly speaking, it is coloring not dyeing.
If you mean very slight hint of dark red - it could be just coloring no bleach.

Probably both. But in order to get lighter tones into "black" - (no hair is actually black but we call the deepest dark brown tones black)- one must strip the hair of the color. For dark auburn reds that red is then colored back into the hair.

Its neither bleaching nor dyeing but its coloring. It can be due to the application of mehndi (henna) also.

Try hydrogen peroxide on your hair, it will turn reddish first, before going blond.
