This has been the most confusing story. The media has spun it everywhich way - the parents are wrong, the parents are suspects, the parents are victims. Now some PI says the child will be home by Christmas. She better hurry.
One has to say first and foremost the girl child would not be missing if the parents hadn't felt it more important to dine out than to protect their children. And the hotel had a sitter service too that they could have used but didn't.
I just hope the PI is right - and then perhaps more attention will be focused on the carelessness of the parents.

No offence i have always said no parent or guardian should leave their children unattended and this is exactly what the mcganns did!!!!!! Yes innocent till proven guilty but come on they are both professional people they should of known better. Now if this happend to a working class family the social services would be hammering on the front door to them. Okay thats my opinion right or wrong its mine

I think it all depends on the circumstances. I am not up to date about who these people are, but leaving children alone, depending on the situation (how old or mature they are, or what kind of place you are leaving them in, for example) all depends. In most countries, it is completely legal to leave a child alone for a short period of time.
It is not the parents who are to blame (I am sure they feel plenty guilty already), it is the kidnappers. Kidnappers, if they are determined enough can sneak into the house while you are showering and take your child, they can disguise themselves as a babysitter or housekeeper and snatch your kid, they could snatch them while you are paying for groceries, they can even take your child from their beds while you are asleep. It happens all the time and you can't exactly keep an eye on your child every second of the day, every day of the week, every minute of the year until they are full grown adults can you?

I wouldn't want to leave any children under the age of 12 alone without adult supervision - the sad thing is the hotel had a babysitting service apparently and you'd think being doctors they'd be able to afford the service if it wasn't free.. I guess the reality is when people are on holidays they often forget about the dangers that are out there and simply focus on having a good time...

Im pretty sure in the event that maddy is found the social services will then investigate but there's no proof the parents did away with her and until there is they are innocent, therefore they are suffering enough already. how about everyone focus their energy on finding the child, alive or not, and deal with the rest afterwards.

no you are not heartless and yes it is illegal. i have a corner shop which is literally 1 minute from my house (you can see it from outside my door) and i dont even leave my kids in the house alone while i run to the shop. there have been many occasions when my kids have been safely tucked up in bed and Ive needed milk or something but even though it would take me literally 3 minutes max, i wont go. i either phone my friend who lives over the road and ask her to sit in for a minute or i will ring my dad or grandad who live just around the corner. its just not worth the risk. anything could happen. not just them being taken but what if a fire started or what if something happened to me whilst i was going to the shop?
i do think the mccanns should be punished accordingly for leaving the kids alone because i know if it was anyone else who had left there kids home alone, they would be punished.
i do feel genuinely sorry for them as obviously this is the last thing they would have expected to happen but At the same time if the kids wouldn't have been alone, this could never have happened. xx

Although I agree that people should be presumed innocent until guilt is proved, I also agree that children of such a young age should not be let on their own for any period of time. I know that I wouldn't be able to leave a child of mine alone while I went out, even if I wasn't that far away, I would want a responsible adult in the property with them.

No it is not illegal. In American yes it is but not only were they not in America but they were not American. Different countries have different laws regarding children staying home alone. Here in Romania it is very common for children as young as 5 to care for not only themselves but younger siblings. That is not my opinion but just a fact. I personally would not leave a small child like that alone in a foreign country to eat out.

Rather than KEEP going on about ifs and buts and what the Mccans shouldve done why dont we all join forces emotionaly and make a silent prayer for the safe return of little Maddie. Even if that looks unlikely....... Anyone with me on this one.

I don't think it was right for them to leave her and her siblings alone....what parent in their right mind would do such a thing? I don't care HOW close they were to that room..they admitted they left their children there alone and should be charged with child endangerment. (I don't care that mom kept going back to look in on them either...you just don't leave your kids alone.)
As for what happened...innocent until proven gulity is my motto, but if they had never left the kids alone in the first place this probably would not have happened.
