how do i do a software update??? why do i have t do it anyways?

Usually just by going online, correction... just by BEING online with your PS3, you'll be updated.
As far as WHY you have to update, well because if you don't you won't be able to play some games.
That's right, if you don't update, some games just won't work period.

Go to system update on the setting's menu.
then click via internet.
you must have internet connection though to have it.
why, you need it to play online games, have an acount, and finally you can change your PS3 backround with flower and rainbows!!!!

you can go on the ps3 website via your computer and save the download file onto a disc or usb, then plug it into the ps3 and then update from there :)

I let you know after X-mas day. I just bought one.
From what I was told, you have to go online to do it.
