Hebrew alah, defined as "curse, oath; sworn agreement; public charge."

As a Hebrew speaker I admit that I have no idea what you're talking about.
The word that one of the posters quoted from Deuteronomy 29 is "alot" [אלות], which is probably plural for the super archaic Hebrew word "alah" [אלה], not the Arabic "allah" (note the double L).
The word "allah" comes from the same root as the Hebrew equivalents "el" and "elohim"- god.
In order to enjoy the bizarre similarities of "alot" and "allah" (that are not even faux amis: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_friend) you have to know nothing about Hebrew and Arabic.

the word used for god in hebrew is ELOHIM including the vowel sounds without the vowel sounds it is ALUHM .................. ALEPH LAMED WAW HEY MEM the root word is ALEPH LAM WAW HEY ALUH so coming back to the word ALLAH it is aleph lam lam is ALIP LAM LAM HEY and no where in the hebrew bible there the word allah is people use the word ALLAH because thats what people can understand as god as arabic speakers in the middle east and if at all there was a word for simply god in arabic it is lost due to more than a millennia islamic influence in the middle east "ALLAH= GOD " even in aramaic the word is ALOH alep-lam-waw-hey so same root word as in arabic the word allah can be broke down into al-ilah as some scholars would claim it can no where be related to hebrew ELOHIM or aramic ALOH as the definitive article in arabic AL meaning the where as in hebrew it is HA for example the god is like HA ELOHIM so cortrary to ALLAH is a compund word AL-ILAH as widley accepted hebrew ELOHIM and aramaic ALOH is single word with one root so they are no where same words in actual sense technically ALLAH means the god and ELOHIM / ELOH means just GOD ALLAH is a definitive noun u r talking about one specific god and ELOHIM / ALOH can be god any god you the person using the word believes so irrespective of whatever you believe this is a linguistic truth and anyone who is actually well versed in hebrew aramaic and arabic will know this for sure

what do u mean "i guess they are right" ? in Islam they refer to the same God as Christians, Allah is not a name, its the WORD for God in Arabic, like Dio in spanish or Dieu in French.
