...that some Christians believed that the pope was the anti-Christ; why would they think such a thing? Seemed like quite a nice guy to me. Satan incarnate? That's a little over-the-top don't you think?

If others think differently than you, well you do not let yourself be bothered about them. Whatever your heart says to you, then listen to it and be at peace.

I do not believe it is true, even though I am not Christian. According to the Bible, the "anti-christ" is going to come in a form that walks amongst mankind. so that being would most likely be human, however, that is not to say that it is going to be a pope, or a little girl ,or a boy with black hair sitting in a church, while swinging his feet. For the most part, people of biased faith believe certain things about different religious sects because of their experiences, thus their upbringing and take on the subject. Because that individual specifically named the being in the form of the pope, he or she may have a specific opposition to the Catholic faith. It's neither wrong nor right because it is opinion, but it is not fact based, so it is somewhat unjustified. Not the first time I heard that statement though. I think this is just another example of conclusion made based on an individual's intentional, or unintentional, bias.

In revelation it talks about the harlet who rides the beast. If you've done any serious bible study you'll realize that when god talks about a women he's always talking about a church, 10 virgins, The women and the child in revelation, the bride of christ etc. So when it talks the women who rides the beast it has to be talking about a church organization. Now historically Catholicism has kinda played the harlet with every religion its ran into, look at the differences between Mexican catholicism and roman and orthodox. Even Roman catholicism adopted pagan holy days and stamped the name of Christ together. This is why the assumption is that it will be the Catholic church because that would be the main religious support in the region and the mo matches, however as we have learned in recent times alot can change in days. Hope that helps

That saying came during the dark ages when Christians were persecuted by the Catholics and Rome and so the pope was called the Anti-Christ, During that time many Christians lost the lives for there faith and it was all because the Pope did not want the truth to be spread but God always preserves His Word and His church

It is a fable of a sort that's been around for centuries. The anti-christ will appear in Rome and he would corrupt many believers. Logical assumption was the pope but I'm not sure that's the case now.

well they think that some New Agey Jewish hippie 2000 years ago was god incarnate, so is it such a stretch to think the pope is the devil incarnate?

technically anyone who teaches that Christ is not God and that He is not the only way to the Father is an antichrist
the actual antichrist usually referred to when talking about the end of the world is still unknown but many think he will be the pope personally i don't think it'll be someone that obvious

Get onto some of the "conspiracy" sites that go in for this sort of garbage. The "proof" they have gathered to reinforce their allegation is truly mind-boggling.
