I've most often heard the phrase "I could care less", but it really doesn't make sense to me. I've heard some people say "I couldn't care less" or "I couldn't care any less", which makes more sense to me. If you can't care any less, then you're caring the least amount you could possible care. But if you COULD care less, then you still care some. Which one is right, and why? Thanks!

If you say you could care less, it's because you acknowledge that there may be some confusion as to why the subject matter is so important.

But of course, one would only know that if he had figured out in what circumstance one would say it.

By saying "I could care less" You're essentially showing intuition that all might not be what it seems.

As to the question of which one is right, it would depend on the circumstance.

Interesting question! I think Barbara above is right, it depends on how much you care about what you're talking about. I think I couldn't care less makes sense but there are times when I could care less makes sense too.

You are quite right! "I couldn´t (or could not) care less" is how you should say it. To say I could care less, is of course technically OK, but I wonder how many say that ( sounds somewhat cryptic to me!). Why, well I think you already answered it yourself!

Happy Holidays to you!

A person could care less. If they don't care at all then they coudn't care less. There is definately a difference with the meanings.

Technically it depends if you care or not. To indicate that you have no interest it would be "I couldn't care less".

It is "I could care less"; and the person who gave grabbini a thumbs down is incorrect. He knows the correct answer.
