Paddy,

part of the defination of the Freewill is you are free to do what you want to do without any concequences.

In your example, the whole world were drowned becuase they didn't listen to God. Is it freewill or threat. Please think careful.

To exercise free will one must first know the different choices in the world. To do this you must first have knowledge. This came from the tree via the serpent. "God" never gave humanity free will. As such they could not even figure out for themselves if the Serpent was telling the truth or not(even though he was).

God gave us freewill, which we then use to either accept God or to reject God. John 3:16 uses the phrase "who so ever believes", those that make the conscientious decision to believe or not to believe.
You have the ability to reject God and the commands that He gives. "Therefore, he who REJECTS this instruction does not REJECT man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit." (1 Thessalonians 4:8)
To also define freewill as actions that will have no consequence is fallacy. I found no definition (secular or religiously) that had "no consequence" in it's definition. But, I can use logic. You have the freewill to stick your hand in a flame and there will be consequences for your actions. The fire will burn your hand. Or, since you do want Biblical references; "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him." (John 3:36)
Your freewill gives you the ability to accept God and His plan of salvation for you, or you can reject God and get the consequences.

I do believe that God gave us free will. But i do believe he has the ability to shape our destiny within the confines of free will. Why else would christ need to be tested by satan? However on the other side God also knows the eventuality, we know this by very direct prophecy's of Cyrus king of persia who conquered, daniels prophecy of christ, and the planning of the son of God to come to this world. We have a choice, but he knows how the choice will work out, ie Revelation 13:8 " All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. " and "For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren." Hope that helps

Th efree will was designed to give licence to great minds and thinkers. Unfortunately as with all protective mechanisms in place to protect the vulnerable and humane, the aforementioned thrive by suffering with dignity and enduring adversity because there God was subjected to it, giving way to a breeding ground of opportunists who exploit every lawa and statute, designed to protect others from their kind. The free thinking, free spirited, free mind was given free will. Unfortunately it is utilised by they that should best be muzzled and constrained until they are civilised or have gained a modicum of maturity....Life...

the whole bible is so full of them....beginning form adam& eve, when they chose to disobey God to eat the forbidden fruit, right through the time of the Isrealites through to the apostle, and even to this day.
It might have even started before creation when the Lucifer now known as Satan was an angel of God, but bcos of greediness, jealousiness, and evil hatred for God he rebelled with some host of heaven against God the father. God then cast satan and his evil mates away from heaven.
God gave all these beings the freewill to choose to serve Him or follow Satan, but they chose Satan over God.
In our times God's greatness and goodness is felt when we acknowledge our sinful ways and repent from our sins. He is ever willing to forgive man's sins any time of the day. God does not force man to serve Him. His greatness knows no bounds.
thats why he sent his only Son to die for you and my sins on Mount Calvary.

Yes sir,
God gave us a free will. We enherited this from our forefathers Adam and Eve, not only this but their sins as well.
With this free will we either serve God or reject Him.
That's why in Noahs days only 8 souls were saved, and many perished. Many rejected righteous Noahs message as they had a free will and suffered the fate. If we obey and bring our will into line with Gods will the we also will be made righteous like Noah and his family of 8 and be saved by entering into the Ark or the kingdom of Heaven.
My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they wil protect your life many years and bring you prosperity (Prov 3:1).

The first man and woman Adam and Eve disobeyed God in Genesis 3 which led to sin and death.
Also Joshua 24:15 is a good one.

Yes, I do. I believe God created me, and I have freewill.

You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls.

revelations 3:15-22
15I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. 18I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. 19Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. 20Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. 21To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne. 22He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."
