A circle is a two dimensional object, not a three dimensional one, as one could see roughly equal distances into the horizon in all directions, anyone who conceived of a flat earth generally assumed that this flat earth was circular, and as such a "circle" does not imply that any text was correct in predicting a round earth.

(Of course the idea of a round earth itself outside of religion is much older than most believe, and the concept of a flat earth much less prevalent, but that's another issue entirely.)

Hmmmm. A circle can be presented in a repetitious pattern that will eventually provide the one dimensional image of a dot. However, no matter from which angle of view one uses, the result will still be one dimensional. The reality is that when circles are created in an other than one dimensional aspects, they can be visualized in the shape of a sphere.
