You've got a lot more places in your body that need oxygen, so the lungs have to compensate somehow. And if you don't get much exercise, your lungs may be smaller than normal.
It's really not that odd.
Oh, and you may have nose congestion, too. I find that when I eat more sugar, my nose gets stopped up, and I breathe more noisily.
But if I keep the sugar down, get about 20 minutes of exercise a day, and remember to breathe deeply most of the time, I'm not a heavy breather (although I'm a heavy girl).

You may have noticed that chest rises when you breathe in? Your lungs and accessory muscles have to physically lift your chest up and out. Your chest weighs more than it used to.
Did your heavy breathing start fairly recently or is something that's built up over time? If its been recently, please see a doctor to make sure its not something else in addition to the weight.

I would highly recommend a book called Bragg's Super Power Breathing by Paul Bragg. This is probably the best book out there for breathing.

Because the fat inside your body is smothering your lungs and organs, thus, making it harder for you to breathe.
