Hi, I've noticed that my dog has a little black oval shaped bit of skin on her elbow and it seems to be dry and flakey and the hair is a bit thin there, it sticks out a bit but is almost completely flat. I've noticed it a long time ago but thought nothing of it. It hasn't grown at all. It's only about 1cm long and she doesn't seem to notice it at all. Anyone know what it is?

My bf is a vet, he said it's probably a callus.Nothing to worry about.

It is probably a callus from touching the floor or ground when the dog lays down. It is fairly common with large dogs and nothing to worry about. If it changes or gets thicker I would have a vet look at it but if it stays the same I wouldn't do make a special trip for that.

excsama in dogs it could be espically in the joints. Try brushing or rubbing that area firmly if hair comes out then it probably is a small skin iritation and the best way to fix that is see you vet. Put a little luke warm water on the spot. Good Luck and Happy Holidays!

I'd have the vet look at it as I'm alway's running one dog or another to the vet, but it sounds like a bald spot where the dog licks it or from getting up and down and maybe just dry skin. If it were red I'd say it was a worry spot.
