Neo, pay attention to the question! He isn't asking about MAKING it full auto! He wants it semi-automatic!
Sorry mate, but laying out the serious cash necessary to purchase a selective-fire AK-47, and converting it to semi-automatic only is not cost effective. It would be worlds cheaper to simply purchase one of the many thousands of AK-47m's or AKM's that are already semi-automatic.
And if you purchase an illegal full-auto AK-47, converting it to semi-automatic won't make it legal.

Was a possible way a few years back- AK parts kits that had about everything but receiver were available- the guns were not papered in time for 1986 cutoff for full-auto sales and receiver was destroyed. Arizona gun dealer had Norinco semi-auto unfinished receivers imported, another person stamped out a basic RPK receiver- both pattern were safe/semi-auto fire position receivers. Guns were assembled from parts kits on new receiver, flash suppressors welded on barrels to get them to 16.5 inch length. Selector lever and trigger group had parts change so difficult to go back to full auto. The RPK receiver made in US meant the guns were considered American made. Sold for about $250.00 at the time, Arizona and New Mexico deputies were buying them at slight discount. If you bought one of those receivers and perhaps a private party you know had a complete parts kit you could swap parts to legal American made receiver. Rumor has it that some troops at Ft Hood , Texas that found old trophies/'training in foreign weapons supply' did this and later turned in the AK full auto receivers so paper work noted numbers before scrap metal went to cutting torch. .

Here in the USA?
If you bought it legally why on Earth would you want to destroy it?
If you bought it illegally WHY ARE YOU RISKING PRISON AND HUGE FINES?
In the eyes of ATF, once a "machine gun" always a "machine gun". You can't do a conversion to make an illegal one legal. If you converted a legal AK-47, it would still be subject to all the controls it was before but be far less fun to play with.
In short, don't do it unless you just enjoy creating hassles for yourself.

DONT TOUCH THE AK IF ITS FULL AUTO. could get in a lot of trouble. Just buy a semi auto. Also no gunsmith that knows what they're doing would touch a full auto and they def. wouldnt convert it. They wouldn't even convert my DAO sig to a DA/SA where i go.

Yeah, it's illegal to own a full auto AK without the proper licenses, and why would you want to take a $600-700 gun and change it to semi when you can buy a semi-auto legally for half the price?

Sure - but to buy the full-auto version you will spend some serious $$$...tax stamp and all.
Get a semi to start with.

It is almost impossible for a regular Joe Blow to obtain fully auto weapons, although technically it is NOT illegal for law abiding citizens.
