In a hotel in Tenby I once bit into a brussel sprout and noticed half a maggot sticking out from the bit that I hadn't swallowed.
When I complained at least the restaurant manager had the grace not to charge extra.
I suppose it's just as well that I'm not a vegitarian.

Snails from the garden!!
I went on holiday to menorca back in the summer, and I had snails and they were really nice. My friends mum's dad is Italian and she said when she was young her parents would go into the garden and pick snails, soak them in a bucket to remove the poison and then cook them.
So I went and picked a load of fat snails and put them all in a pot of water. It was nearly impossible to keep them in because they kept slithering out. They didn't exactly look nice when I finally cooked them- I had to pour off loads of yellow slime. And they tasted disgusting.
I'm guessing the ones I tried in Spain were a different type!
I'm not at all squeamish and will try anything. I'd really like to try those deep fried tarantulas they cook in some countries.

Living in Taiwan ... you take your pick. I have eaten STINKY TOFU (fermented bean curd that is deep fried - smells like a cross between gym gear and vomit).
other local delicasies that I can not make myself eat are:
snake soup (they say its good for your stomach - I say, "yes, FOR YOU, not ME)
pigs blood soup
chicken *** on a stick!
pork intestine
something I refer to as fish maggots (teeny tiny white fish that you can just see the eyes)
chicken feet (readily sold at the 7-11)
really - choose a part of the animal, they eat it or ingest it somehow.

Deep fried pickles, not as weird or strange as other people's postings, but for me it is the strangest thing I have tried. They rock though. Yum, eat in moderation!
