I have them on at 7pm and turn them off at 10pm. is that too late and too early? i don't want them on and forget about it before i go to sleep.

Dusk to Midnight. Get a timed stake to plug the lights in. Some even work from dusk to a set amount of hours.

Depends on the amout of power you are willing to pay for. What type of bulb are you using (Old style that get hot or new that stay cool) and are you talking in or outdoor? With new cool bulbs i would have to agree the dusk till midnight idea for outdoor lights if the neighbors dont mind, unless you do like the Griswalds lol. Indoor lights I would do the same if your tree was place by a window for people to see. Other wise I would do what you felt like for indoor.

I don't believe there is a right or wrong time to turn christmas lights on or off....
I turn mine on at about 8pm and they are off by 10.00 most nights. The only night I actually leave them on all night is Xmas Eve.... so Santa can see around the lounge room and not trip over the tree.

On as soon as it gets dark, off before you go to bed. My grandfather had a 7PM until 10 PM rule, because that was all the electric he was willing to use.

i think that you turn them on too late... try around 5. it gets dark at like 4:30 so 5 should be good. And i say leave em on till around midnight. The longer - the better :) merryxmas!

Yes, that's right. Turn them off before you go to bed to avoid any fires breaking out due to overheating.

They're your lights, so you can turn them on and off as you wish. I think most people would turn them on whenever it gets dark.

it's summer here so it gets dark at about 8.30pm so i turn mine on then ..and turn them off at about10.30pm cause by then most of the kids in the neighbourhood are in bed..
