No they are not. During Vietnam it was soldiers and sailors keep off the grass. During the first gulf war, it was wow, what wonderful TV pictures. Soldiers were unimportant to that war only CNN mattered. They appeared to be the ones who won the war. During this Iraqi Freedom, the soldiers are thought of in a much better light. Support our troops and all that. Stop the war, support the troops, signs all over the place. A soldier does not want war, after all he is putting his life on the line when diplomacy fails. Once a soldier is called to war his goal is to win. You cannot support the troops and stop the war before it is finished. This is not supporting the troops it is supporting the politicians.

This year the military and veterans will get a whopping 2% pay raise. I have not decided to buy that Rolls Royce or get something off the 99 cents menu at Wendy's. (I am a 100% disabled veteran). It takes over two years to get the results of a claim at the VA approved or disapproved. During that time the VA charges you for medication and doctors visits if you are less then 50% disabled. Losing the use of your foot is a 20% disability. Congress gave the 2% raise to the vets and soldiers, but managed to give themselves a 5% raise this year.

All these senators from both parties who are running for president have not been in the Senate for over 6 months and closer to a year.

Without the American troops from all services you would not have the right to ask your question on an open forum. Without the American troops you would have no rights. The politicians and a lot of the public feel that the military belongs in a freezer somewhere until we really need them, like Pearl Harbor or 9/11. Hell yes I am bitter. We gave and give everything to our country including our lives and we get nothing but headaches when we come home. A military funeral costs more then the government pays. (The bugler does not play taps anymore, there is a tape recorder in his bugle that plays it for him. Need I say more)

I went to Iraq 3 times and came home, to America, 3 times and was always treated very well. My Father has told me stories of when he returned from Vietnam he was spit on and rocks were thrown at the plane that brought him home when it landed in San Fransico. If anything like that happened today it would make National Headlines.
Everytime someone says," Thank you for your service.", or buys me a drink because I am a Veteran I think about those returning Vietnam Vets and how far we have come since then.

I have been home for one year and 2 weeks now, and I can't complain on how I am treated, I am continuing my military career for 4 more years, probably with one more tour to go. I have buddies who have left the service, and all their medical problems are still being taken care of from injuries that happened during our 16 month deployment. Most of them are going to college and feeling great. But remember, everyone's experience is different. You might here one horror story from one person, dont think its like that for everyone. Open your brain up and ask more people

Many are not being treated properly. Some are left in the cold for health care after the initial patch job.
I would love to see a Soldier receive the same health benefits package that the lowest congressman gets. I would love to see our veterans retirement not be changed by congress after they have retired and served this nation...give me a moment to hold my breath here...

I depends on where your are from and if they support you. Sorry Canadians next time come to America we love you too. We are all in this fight together.

They are not. The people--whether they agree with the war or not, are treating the troopswith respect, as they should.

The Bush administration has cut funding for vetran's benefits, negleted medicalcare for disabled veterans, and failed to enforce the law requiring empoyers to return National Guard and reservists t o their former jobs--among other things.

Ever seen the insides of a VA hospital?? While the decor, at times, is woefully dated, the vets are treated like royalty.

'Anyone who have ever been in quickly learns ,"" there are 3 ways of doing things, the right way, the wrong way and the Army way."""
Any shortcoming is generally the result of a bureaucratic SNAFU, not a lack of carting.

1-bush admin has cut vetarans health care funding
2-bush admin hasnt protected national guardsmen job security (businesses are supposed to have to take them back)
3-post traumatic stress disorder usually goes undiagnosed, and the military makes it very hard to file and get help
4-veterans groups who are against the war are often prevented from taking part in marches or celebrations, apparently service to the country isnt as meaningful as political affiliation.

well you tell me....have you ever greeted an armed soldier and told them how much you appreciate their work???
And it doesnt matter how they are treated....after they do their job they dont expect patts on the back and hand shakes and free cookies.....they didnt do it all for that.
